When I was looking for something fun for my students to do in the off-season 10+ years ago, I never imagined that I’d have so much fun and meet so many amazing people and horses along the way! Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) has given such wonderful opportunities and memories to everyone involved. I just can’t say enough kind words about this nonprofit group.

So, without further ado, meet Greenbridge Equestrian Team 2026–2027! We have already been to our first shows at Culver Academies this past weekend! We always appreciate showing at their lovely facility with their friendly staff and riders. Many nice rides were had and personal goals met. Team championships and reserve championships were even accomplished. Proud of these girls and looking forward to riding in Shipshewana at the end of the month! Keep putting in the hard work!

Just a few of the reasons we love IEA - Interscholastic Equestrian Association!

For young riders, it can be easy to think of progress primarily in terms of what happens in the saddle. Moving on to more difficult divisions and bigger goals. But Roxane Durant, co-founder and executive director of the IEA - Interscholastic Equestrian Association believes equestrian education has to extend beyond riding.

Over the years, IEA has increasingly incorporated horsemanship into its programming, giving riders opportunities to learn not only how to compete, but how horses are cared for, how horse shows actually function, and how much work happens before anyone ever walks through the in-gate.

For Durant, some of those lessons are built directly into the structure of the program.

After an IEA team has been in the program for a few years, it is required to host or co-host horse shows. That means the coaches have to come together to organize the event, but it also means their students become part of making that event happen.

The riders may help prepare horses for competition or set courses before the show. They may learn what happens at the in-gate, help with announcing, or work around the concession stand. “All the pieces that go into running, you know, just a small schooling size horse show,” Durant said. “All those learning pieces are happening inherently as part of participating in IEA.”

For riders accustomed to arriving at a show with everything already prepared, seeing the other side of the operation can offer a very different education. Someone has to make sure horses are ready. Someone has to know which rider belongs where. Someone has to set the course, call the class, organize the gate, and keep the day moving. The horse show does not simply appear when the first rider enters the ring.

Bethany is one of our prized instructors at Greenbridge! So many children have started riding horses under her guidance. She is a gem in so many other ways in our community as well. We are so happy that she is part of our farm family! ♥️

✨TEACHER SPOTLIGHT✨

❤️Meet our Lead Teacher Mrs. Podell

Hello! My name is Bethany Podell, and I am so excited to begin a new year teaching at LifeWise! What a joy it is to build relationships with each child while sharing the love of Jesus and the one big story of the Bible with them. 🙂 It really is the best job ever and I couldn't be more thankful! My prayer is that each student who enters my classroom will feel safe, loved, and valued. 🙂

A fun fact about me is that I give horseback riding lessons! I enjoy walking, reading, and spending time with my family. 🙂 My favorite foods include: pickles, any type of fruit, and french fries!

One of my favorite Bible verses is, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight." - Proverbs 3:5-6

Looking forward to an amazing year full of learning, fun, and encouragement! ❤️

Happy Labor Day from all your friends at the IEA!

Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and has been a Federal holiday since 1894. Enjoy the day and reflect on all the hard work you and surrounding friends and loved ones achieve every single day.

All IEA offices will be closed MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH and re-open TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH.

During some pretty stormy weather last week with rain accumulating over 12”, some really wonderful events happened. Some amazing people rallied to make sure I was able to take Michaela to show at the Region 14 Arabian show. She killed it with some top 5’s and ended the week with an equitation championship! 💙

I know how grateful Michaela, her parents and I were for all the extra work it took to keep up with the weather! Thank you Andrea, Lisa, Linsey, Loralei, Eli, Rheatta, Emri and all the others who chipped in and helped out! It takes a village and I have the best! ♥️

There are so many ways to enjoy and spend time with the horses. Congrats to Lisa and Nick for competing in and completing a virtual Tevis Cup (if you were competing live, you would be riding your 100 miles near Lake Tahoe in a day!) Lisa was rehabbing her horse this spring, and found a great way to stay motivated and enjoy her best buddy! Congratulations, again to Lisa and Nick! We’re very proud of you! 🩷
