Today is Indigenous Peoples Day.⠀
⠀
This violence, demonization, and erasure of Indigenous People continues to this day.⠀
⠀
We encourage you to unpack and learn beyond the yt-washed version of history widely taught in North American education to recognize, honor, and advocate for Indigenous People not only nationally but globally.⠀
⠀
This is an invitation for all of us to do better.⠀
⠀
• Here are some recommended actions you can take today and everyday:⠀
• Learn about the Indigenous tribes native to the land you are settled on.⠀
• Give back to the Indigenous tribes native to the land you are settled on financially and/or through your time, energy, and abilities.⠀
• Donate to Indigenous land back and land tax funds.⠀
• Donate to Covid-19 relief funds for Indigenous communities.⠀
• Learn more about and support the MMIW (Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women) Movement advocating for, and drawing attention to, the end of violence against Indigenous women, and the high rates of disappearances and murders of Indigenous people, particularly women and girls.⠀
• Advocate for the recognition of Indigenous Peoples Day.⠀
• Support ongoing efforts to decolonize public education.⠀
• Support ongoing efforts to get rid of racist sports team names and mascots.⠀
• Follow and support Indigenous-led organizations, such as: , , , , and .
