Psalm 57
7My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise.
Andrew's
Notes
The Hebrew word "KUWN," which was translated "fixed" here, was translated "prepared" in (2 Chronicles 12:14). That verse says, "And he did evil, because he prepared not his heart to seek the LORD" (brackets mine). David had fixed, or prepared, his heart in advance to praise the Lord. That's why he was not swayed by his men who encouraged him to kill Saul when Saul came into the cave (1 Samuel 24:4). We can predetermine our actions. We don't have to be moved by whatever temptation comes our way. We can fix our hearts in such a way that we can't depart from serving God. This is a process and must be done in advance. Paul was persuaded that the Lord would keep that which he had committed to Him (2 Timothy 1:12). But if there isn't any commitment, there isn't any keeping. We must choose, and we must do it in advance.
8Awake up, my glory; awake, psaltery and harp: I myself will awake early.
Andrew's
Notes
We have to awake or stir ourselves up to praise the Lord. It doesn't always just come naturally.
9I will praise thee, O Lord, among the people: I will sing unto thee among the nations.
Andrew's
Notes
David was not afraid to praise the Lord. He would do it in front of everyone (2 Samuel 6:21-22).
