Club rides may resume - with precautions!

from the Santa Clara County website:
https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/public-health-orders.aspx -summary

"On January 25, 2021, the California Department of Public Health announced that the Bay Area Region is no longer subject to the State’s Regional Stay At Home Order. However, Santa Clara County continues to experience an alarming rate of COVID-19 transmission, and hospital and ICU capacities remain extremely limited in the county and region. The danger COVID-19 poses to our community has not subsided, and the County Health Officer urges businesses, entities, and residents to continue exercising the utmost caution even as certain restrictions are lifted by the State."

What this means for the club:

Recreational sports may resume, subject to the new Mandatory Directive for Youth and Adult Athletic Activities.
Highlights from the above reference:
- Practice Physical Distancing and Hand Hygiene at Gatherings
- Wear a Face Covering to Keep COVID-19 from Spreading
- everyone must wear a face covering at all times during a gathering (limited exceptions for eating/drinking, speaking/presenting with social distancing)
- Stay Informed

Unfortunately, once again we must temporarily and indefinitely cancel all official club rides. This is in response to the County of Santa Clara recommendations. I have included a summary of the restrictions below.

Last Revised: December 4, 2020

--- IMPORTANT NOTICE ---

Under the State’s December 3, 2020 Regional Stay at Home Order and the County Health Officer’s December 4, 2020 Mandatory Directive Implementing State’s Stay At Home Order, all gatherings with members of other households, whether indoors or outdoors, are temporarily prohibited, except outdoor religious worship services, political events, and cultural ceremonies of up to 100 people.
Taken from https://www.sccgov.org/sites/covid19/Pages/mandatory-directives-gatherings.aspx

We have contacted our legal team to determine whether or not we can declare ourselves a religious organization as we are considering changing our club name to Sunnyvale Cupertino Church of Cycling or the Lemon Head Church of the Rolling Wheel (LHCoRW).

Exercise is important and I encourage you to continue to ride individually. If members should gather in smaller groups, please avoid wearing club gear as it may give outsiders the wrong impression.

Stay safe everyone!

*Please confirm that your gathering is allowed under the State Order. Where there is a difference between the local County Order and the State Order, the more restrictive order must be followed.*

28/07/2020

In keeping with the local guidelines, we have resumed club rides with social distancing, etc. in mind.

The schedule is posted on our website: www.sccc-cycling.,org

Come join us for a Saturday ride!

The new "Order of the Health Officer of the County of Santa Clara" was released today. Despite our local increases, there was nothing in it that would change our Club rides (current guidance prevails).

The outdoor gathering rule does not specifically address athletics, but offers the following restrictions:

Limitations on Gatherings.
Gatherings of any size outside of a single household remain strongly discouraged because they carry significant risk of exposure to COVID-19.
Any gathering occurring indoors is prohibited unless it involves no more than 20 people or 1 person per 200 square feet of the space accessible to participants in the gathering, whichever is fewer.
Any gathering occurring outdoors is prohibited unless it involves no more than 60 people and occurs in an outdoor area large enough to allow for social distancing of all attendees.
Participants in gatherings of any size must adhere to any additional directives of the Health Officer applicable to gatherings, and also the Social Distancing and Face Covering Requirements set forth above in Sections 9 and 10. (9 = social distancing 10 = face coverings)

Wash your hands and ride your bike

refer to:

Please read this Order carefully. Violation of or failure to comply with this Order is a misdemeanor punishable by fine, imprisonment, or both. (California Health and Safety Code § 120295, et seq.; Cal. Penal Code §§ 69, 148(a)(1); Santa Clara County Ordinance Code § A1-28.)

USA Cycling TEAM/CLUB GUIDELINES TO CONSIDER

- Self-monitor for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and be clear of these for the previous14 days.
- Self-conduct a temperature check before participating.
- Not have traveled extensively, or to an area with a high incidence of COVID-19.
- Not be in a group that is at high-risk if exposed to COVID-19, or in regular contact with anyone who is.
- Carry and/or wear a face covering depending on the type of ride, prevalence of local community spread, weather conditions and size of the group.
- Carry hand sanitizer.
- Come prepared to be self-sufficient with food and drink, as well all tools, equipment and clothing needed so as not to have to share.
Practices:
- Consider ride types that limit the need to draft. MTB and gravel are examples.
- Limit stops to resupply.
- When stopping respect social distancing, wear a face covering and wash your hands.
- Meet any required group size requirements as set by your local community.
- Meet in areas that lessen your exposure to others.
- Bring all necessary supplies (tubes, CO2/bike pump, tire levers, etc) to fix or support your ride, and do not assist others in handling of their equipment while fixing any mechanical issue.
- Dial back the intensity of the ride so that the exertion levels reduce risk of transmission.

Riders,

Just a reminder that as of March 15 (and in alignment with USA Cycling guidelines) we have suspended all club group rides.

https://sccc-cycling.org/2020/03/group-rides-cancelled-until-further-notice

At this time, we have no indication that officials are recommending anything other than a suspension of activity. As a club, we must stay the course.

I am looking forward to our future club rides.

-Andy

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in alignment with USA Cycling guidelines, SCCC is cancelling all club rides at this time.

How close is too close?

Social distancing is the new norm during this pandemic. Many guidelines ask us to maintain a 6 foot spacing and local guidelines allow us to leave our shelters for exercise. But how close is too close while exercising? A Dutch study uses this thing called science to predict exposure rates as a funct...

All,

In alignment with USA Cycling guidelines, we are cancelling club rides at this time.

The USA Cycling guidelines are through April 5th, however we are going to take a "wait and see" approach. We will announce when club rides will resume.

I strongly recommend to continue to follow all public health organization recommendations and to ride on your own. Fitness is important!

Thank Wayne and Liz (aka Wiz) for forwarding this important message!

P.S. Listserve is not working right now...I'm trying to understand why.
