Hello BottleRocket family! Can you believe another month has come and gone? With the end of May, we’d like to introduce the BottleRocketeer of the Month, Heather Lohrbach Pone and her family! Heather and her family have been BottleRocketeers for almost a year, and are from Orange, California.

Q: How did you hear about BottleRocket?
A: Through a flyer left on our porch.

Q: What do you like the most about BottleRocket?
A: I don’t have to separate cans from bottles and they come to me to pick it up!

Q: How have you benefited from BottleRocket?
A: I spend no time at a recycling center anymore; the container is perfect and takes up less space than multiple trash cans to separate glass from cans. I save up my earnings and cash in a larger amount and then treat myself and my boys to a treat.

Q: Anything else you’d like to mention?
A: I wanted to add that my children are a huge part of the recycling as well. They bring all their bottles from their lunches home from school so that we can recycle. We also pick up what is left behind at their baseball games and baseball practice.

Thanks for recycling with BottleRocket, Heather! ♻️🚀

Happy National Compost Day! Did you know that 25% of your trash can be composted? This includes yard waste, food scraps, and even food soiled paper. Composting turns waste into soil, which frees up landfills and helps reuse resources for farming.

Last week, schools all over the country celebrated for the hard work teachers put in to educate our students. We talked to one of our BottleRocketeers, Caitlyn Kilroy, who is a math teacher and softball coach at Orange High School.

Q: How did you hear about BottleRocket?
A: I was at my parent’s house and two representatives from BottleRocket came by. I asked my mom what the service was about, and after finding out, I ran down the street asking them if it was possible to do a school partnership!

Q: How has BottleRocket affected your students?
A: For my school in general, I have teachers coming in saying how much they appreciate our recycling bins. Our students really do understand recycling- they know that it is just cans and water bottles. Softball wise, we have raised a good amount of money. Next year, since we’ll have green bins in every classroom and two large bins by the softball field, we’ll be making $30 a week. It was slow in the beginning because we didn’t know about the large bins... but we’ll have raised about $1000 by the end of the year.

Q: What do you like most about BottleRocket, and how have you benefited?
A: I honestly don’t really have to do anything. Whenever it’s recycling day, we go out, collect the green bins, and then BottleRocket comes by and picks them up. And they pay me! It was my first year as a coach, so I liked that I didn’t have to put in too much effort. It’s just an easy and stress free way to fundraise.

Thanks for recycling with BottleRocket, Caitlyn! ♻️🚀

Thank you Irvine Standard for the feature. When we started BottleRocket as two UCI students, we never thought it would turn into a full-fledged movement across three cities. It has been and always will be a humbling experience, and we couldn’t have done it without our supporters UCI Cove and ANTrepreneur Center.

And of course, here’s to all the BottleRocketeers that recycle with us! 🌎🎉♻️

On the day he graduated from UC Irvine, Arthur Avetisov spent his morning picking up bottles and cans.
