Swerve is excited to be participating in the first annual Duke Sport Clubs Giving Day fundraiser. For so many of us on the team, Swerve is the main community at Duke we lean on. WE DID IT, FRIENDS!

In less than a day, we’ve all come together to raise $707.51 in donations. Coupled with our match fund, that’s a total of $1,357.51 that will go towards the NC Community Bail Fund, Okra Project, and TWoCC!

We are so incredibly PROUD of our community. Thank you!

While Swerve isn’t able to match any more donations, we highly encourage you to continue contributing what you can to other groups and organizations. Here are a few other ultimate teams that are fundraising right now:

It's been less than 12 hours and we've already received $376.98 in donations! ALSO, Brimstone: Duke University Men's Ultimate has contributed to the fundraiser, increasing our match funds to $565! We're excited to see so many people committing to change and taking action. Let's keep this momentum going!

We are enraged by the senseless losses of and threats to Black lives at the hands of police. George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Christian Cooper. Tony McDade. David McAtee. Mike Ramos. And countless others. We stand in solidarity with the protests happening around the country fighting for racial justice, but we also understand that solidarity alone will not create meaningful change.

Black Lives Matter.

As an organization with predominantly White and East Asian members, we recognize that we have a long way to go if we want to foster a truly inclusive team environment. To better align ourselves with the Color of Ultimate’s goals of making ultimate more accessible to people of all racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, we want to acknowledge our privilege and listen to and amplify the voices that are not always heard.

To start, we are matching donations up to $425 for organizations in support of the Black Lives Matter movement. Donate to ANY racial justice organization and we will match you 100% by donating to one of the following organizations and make our direct donation receipts public.

- NC Community Bail Fund of Durham
- Trans Women of Color Collective
- Okra Project

To participate, DM or email [email protected] a screenshot/copy of your donation receipt to ANY racial justice organization. OR, directly Venmo your donation to and let us know which of the three organizations you would like us to donate to on your behalf in the comments.

Additionally, we plan to hold each other accountable for educating ourselves as individuals and as a team on anti-racism work and spreading the word about donations and petitions. As we make our social media posts, we hope to remain cognizant of how our actions might be hiding rather than elevating BIPOC voices. We will avoid taking up precious space under the BlackLivesMatter and BLM hashtags that activists are using to share critical information, videos, and resources. We encourage teams and individuals in the ultimate community to do the same.

Without justice, there is no peace. We all can do better as allies.
