As October comes to a close, here’s a fish from the beginning of October when we only had a short time to fish and weren’t even looking for bass. When they get this big getting release photos can be tricky, but it’s always worth a try.

Here’s Phil on the High Flyer with a nice bluefin off the beach. Admittedly we know very little about downeast boats. So can anyone tell me about this boat and also the third pic is Craig on In Decent Seas with a nice fish. Also not sure about that model. And finally the last pic, have no clue what kind of boat that is. They were checked by DEM after landing a nice fish.

This was a nice warm summer day with Ella. Last photo is her biggest fluke ever. Guess the weight. Winner gets nothing but a nice “good job”.

More of these coming, we have a backlog. Also does doormat start at 8, 10, or 12 lbs?

It does (kind of) pass inspection by the way!
*(not emissions because it’s so old it’s exempt.)☠️

We closed out the last day of August with this fish. It was somewhat of a surprise as we sat fishing the entire day without seeing much and I was ready to go home. Nina said 15 more minutes and we got bit 7 mins later. It’s also the first fish we’ve caught on the Zack’s Custom Rods, LLC. The drag is at 45 lbs at strike and at the end Nina is usually a little past that, so you can check out the bend. The fight and end game is a little easier on a center console, but we do suffer sometimes while we sit and wait in bad weather. The rainy day was a more recent day where we went fishless!

These first two fish are giant yellowfin measuring 68 and 71 inches and weighing 190 and 202 lbs! They pretty much represent the pinnacle of yellowfin in the northeast canyons. Yellowfin this size are exceedingly rare in our area and these were caught by our buddy boat (Brian and Scott Hughes) on a recent canyon trip. We also had a nice trip with smaller and more normal sized yellowfin.

I recently heard a podcast featuring SeaBros Fishing and Mark DeCabia talking about landing a fish that would be such an accomplishment for you that you could then walk away from fishing. I believe Mark’s was a big opah? I feel like Damon’s recent 1260 lb blue marlin is also in that category. But what do you guys have for your mic drop? I think for me it might be a 1500 lb bluefin tuna. How about a 20 lb fluke? 20 lb tog? 70 lb striper?
