I'm teaching the "License To Carry" (LTC) class this weekend at Educated Arms. I'm a huge believer in the LTC program. I realize that Texas is a "permit less carry" state but with that comes legal issues and limitations. The LTC class quantifies those issues and helps folks become more knowledgeable about the issues / concerns with carrying a firearm on your person.
If nothing else, having an LTC removes the background check process for purchasing a firearm (since an FBI fingerprint background check is part of the LTC program).
It's a great class and I truly enjoy teaching it.
Aim and Focus Karate

One of the joys of running Aim and Focus Karate for 25 years is that I get to see our former students as they progress on their life journey. That wonderful opportunity happened last Friday. I was sitting in a local restaurant enjoying breakfast when a father and former student came walking across the dining room. I have to be honest, I recognized the dad first (he hadn't changed as much as the young woman walking with him).
It was awesome to visit with them both. I have such fond memories of this young lady and her older brother. They kept in touch over the years...visiting the school...stopping their car for a "Tang Soo" as I sat in a bus during the bus run for the After-School Program.
I asked the dad for some pictures and these are what he sent. The young lady just graduated high school. The young man, now married and serving in our armed forces, is currently deployed.
I'm so very proud of these former students. Dad included some fun pictures of when they were so much younger. Thank you sir for sharing these pictures and helping their Sa Bom Nim beam with pride.
Please take a moment with the picture of this young man serving our country...in his uniform ready to perform his duty. I'm incredibly proud of this young man and what he stands for.

Spent some time with Ms Abby out at the Staccato Ranch rifle range. She was shooting a 6.5 PRC built by CTX Precision Rifles running a Vortex Viper PST optic. The lady can shoot.
She was setup sitting on target at 600 yds...started the timer...she put 5 rounds on target...transitioned to 800 yards...put five more rounds on target...moved to 860 yards and put 4 out of 5 rounds on target (bit of wind...one shot off right edge). She did all that in 3 minutes and 16 seconds. She went 14 for 15 "on the clock".
Ms Abby is relocating out of state in a few weeks to continue her education. I'm so proud of what she's accomplished across the board. I might mention...she's not bad with a pistol too.
Good luck Ms Abby...when you can visit, we'll put rounds downrange.
I'm teaching a "Basic Pistol Class" this Saturday at Educated Arms (see link below). I really enjoy teaching this class. It's a great "how do I get started with shooting a pistol" class. When I visit local gun ranges I often see folks that would truly benefit from this class. The "I have a friend who can teach me" or "my husband has been shooting for years" often leads new shooters to bad habits. Sometimes learning from someone trained to teach gun safety is the best source of information on something where one mistake can lead to a tragedy.
When I taught Women's Self Defense classes at Aim and Focus Karate I always started the classes asking the ladies "What do you fear the most ?" (finding someone in my house, waking up and someone is standing beside my bed, someone with a knife, someone attacking me when my children are with me). I would adjust the material in the class to cover what those students needed / wanted the most.
I do the same thing with the pistol class. I ask the students what is their primary objective and then structure the class to meet that objective.
Come join us....it'll be fun !!!

Our customers just rock. A customer made one of these for the store. I thought it was really cool. So Jon (owner) and our customer configured one for me (I like OD green guns).
Huge thank you !!!!!

I was always incredibly proud of the staff members that worked at Aim and Focus Karate. The people that worked for us always fully embraced the philosophy and culture we were trying to create. The success of our students was directly related to the success of the staff showing the way.
I will always take time to share their respective success stories as they move forward in their own lives / pathways.
Ms Abby is about to leave the Austin area to continue her studies in photography in New York. Today while visiting Master Holt's dojang, she shared with me her 1st place metal in the recent Austin Spartan Sprint 5K. If you've been following our posts, Ms Abby has recently had a lot of success behind long distance rifles.
For our students and staff....it was always about "Pyong Ahn" (Peaceful Confidence).

Love the Vortex warranty. We were helping at customer at Educated Arms and broke the glass on a pistol red dot (we used the screws that came with the pistol not the Vortex screws).
Our Vortex rep always says, "If you have one in the case, give it to the customer as a replacement". We opened another box, attached the red dot (using the Vortex screws) and sent the customer to the range.
A new red dot from Vortex has already shipped and will be at the store by Tuesday. This isn't the first time Vortex has done this....love these guys.
Plus...their optics just rock. I shot them on my competition pistols and rifles.
Thank you Vortex !!!!
I'm teaching a "Basic Pistol" class at Educated Arms on May 23rd. This is a three hour class to learn the fundamentals of shooting a pistol. This is not a live fire class...it's a great class to learn all the basics before you're standing in a gun range trying to figure out how to operate the gun, how to stand, how to load / unload, etc.
I really enjoy teaching the class and introducing folks to pistol shooting.
The courses at Educated Arms can take you all the way from never shot a pistol to competitive shooting (if that's on your wish list). Maybe you just want to be confident in using a pistol for self defense....join the class and begin that journey.
Love teaching the LTC class !!!!
