At the Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) event at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, 3 of our members Audrey, Austin, and Kasey presented “Humans to Heroes: The Science Behind Superheroes.” Their booth featured six interactive experiments: Symbiotic Fluid, where ferrofluid responded to sound vibrations; Power Surge, a steady-hand circuit game demonstrating electricity; Smart Shield, a non-Newtonian material that hardened under impact; Slo-Mo, showing how eddy currents slow a falling magnet; Force Field, revealing the repelling power of magnetic poles; and UV Sense, where UV-reactive materials changed color in ultraviolet light. They used these demonstrations to teach visitors, especially young scientists, how science can mimic superhero powers. Their clear communication, creativity, and scientific knowledge impressed both audiences and judges, earning them first place and a $1,000 prize for their outstanding work.
Huge congrats to them!! We are all super proud of their hard work!!
