Meet DC — guest favorite, staff favorite, and our 2026 Prom King. 👑
DC started skiing as a kid. In the mid-’80s, he switched to snowboarding and began riding professionally for K2 in 1989. After meeting Doug Coombs, og founder of VHSG, at a sponsor photoshoot in Alaska, he found his way to heli-skiing and began guiding in Thompson Pass in 1993.
He officially joined the VHSG crew in 2020, but Valdez has been his happy place for much longer.
When we asked why he keeps coming back year after year, his answer pretty much says it all up:
“As far as the riding goes- the snow, the terrain and the access- nothing beats Valdez, nothing ever compares. Add in the bonus of the Lodge- the people, the parties and the food- and it’s the best experience available.”
“I’d still do it just for the riding in the Chugach, like we did in the early days. I lived in a tent and didn’t make any money, but got first descents and fresh tracks, and still felt like I scored!“
30+ years later, he’s still chasing that feeling — and we’re pretty lucky to have him along for the ride. 🤘❄️
