On our second installment of how awesome our last three Barbarians competed at our April Pulls 6 meet on Saturday, 25th!

hasn’t hit a meet platform in a minute, so this was a great way to get back into competition mode. She had a solid performance, barely missing her third attempts, but still made a 4kg improvement on her official total!

Sn ✅ 56/✅ 59/🔴 61
C&J ✅ 71/✅ 73/🔴 76

It has been a year since was bitten in the hand by a dog and she wasn’t sure she would come back from it. But, Hannah was determined, focused on healing and then got back to training asap. She came back stronger than ever and went 6-for-6 and improving her comp sn**ch by 2kg and hitting 1kg more on her total!

Sn ✅ 58/✅ 61/✅ 63
C&J ✅ 72/✅ 75/✅ 77

looked strong in the warm up room so we knew she was ready to go. Alex had an solid clean at 100kg, but she had a little press out on the recovery, but she’ll be coming back for that one. The refs were tough and also her teammates. lol

Sn ✅ 66/✅ 69/🔴 72
C&J 🔴 93/✅ 95/🔴 100

Overall, the team had a strong finish with a 75% success rate on their attempts, not that we keep track of everything. 🤓🤣

And very importantly, I want to thank our skeleton crew for some hard hours of serious hustle and for the folks that asked us if they could help us run a fun event for all the competitors...we couldn’t have done it without having a such a wonderful community! Thank you for the bottom of our ❤️! Love my team!

Thank you to our sponsors & vendors .barbellsplates

Look out for our next meet, The 12th Annual Octobar Fest!!!

A bit over a week ago we held our April Pulls 6 meet at our gym and it was a fun comp where we saw some really solid lifting by all the competitors!

We had six Barbarians tear up the stage. We’re gonna celebrate their achievements in two posts because there’s so much to cheer for!

competed in her very first weightlifting competition after starting with us a little over a year ago. Linzee really goes for her lifts and went 6-for-6, matching her training PR in the sn**ch, but hitting a new PR in the C&J. It really counts when done under pressure, and she finished with:

Sn ✅ 47/✅ 50/✅ 52
C&J ✅ 60/✅ 63/✅ 66

competed in his second comp in two years, but this was his first one with us and he has already made big improvements on his lifts! He went 4-for-6 and locked in a big 15kg meet PR!!!

Sn ✅ 78/✅ 81/🔴84
C&J ✅ 103/🔴 107/✅ 108

Brenda has been off the competition platform for a bit and has been working on changing some technical movements in the lifts. She moved well and looked really strong hitting her lifts. She’s getting ready for the next one in a few months!

Sn ✅ 56/✅ 59/🔴62
C&J 🔴65/✅65/🔴68

We have three more Barbarians to go so stay tuned for tomorrow…

This post is a bit overdue, but never too late to celebrate the Barbarian Masters of Our Universe and their strong performances during Masters Nationals in SLC over a week ago!

It was a fun meet where we got solid lifts, big PRs, a few first-timers with our team, medals and lessons learned.

Here’s how they did:
Sn 52 / C&J 61
Sn 107 / C&J 131 (3rd place)
wisner Sn 117 (2nd place) / C&J 138. First meet with our team!
Sn 116 (3rd place) / C&J 145 (3rd place) / Total: 261 (3rd place overall)
Sn 54 / C&J 73. First (official) meet with our team!

I asked our athletes what their biggest takeaways were from the weekend and here’s what they had to say, in no particular order:

✅ Keep in mind that even if one feels crappy in training, things bounce back for comp even if you’re getting older.
✅ Noticed a clearer pathway and ways to focus on improving technique.
✅ Realized the importance of having coaches/team to optimize performances getting at meets so you only worry about making your attempts.
✅ Find healthy ways to channel energy.
✅ TECHNIQUE, TECHNIQUE, TECHNIQUE!

On another fun note...USAW automatically enters everyone as a team nowadays, and our Men’s team (3 guys) came through, big-time! They finished 7th place overall and brought home 5 medals between them!

What was my takeaway...it was worth practicing patience all these years, waiting (and anticipating) the day I would get to slap Sean in the face! And, it was worth the wait.

LET’S GO!!!

Spring break is over… and we’re right back to building strong fundamentals in the weight room .football

Day 1 focused on reinforcing proper squat depth and technique, along with hang cleans, RDLs, cossack squats, and planks with shoulder taps.

Appreciate for reminding us about the med ball tactile cue 👊

Go-to shoulder stretches...

Over a year ago while teaching a Level 1, I was showing the class easy ways to stretch the shoulders using a PVC pipe, but I wasn’t sure what to call them the positions.

Someone in the class was clever and called them, “The Staff” and “The Sword”.

I’m still not sure what they’re really called, but saying either of those names is fitting for a Barbarian gym!

Let us know if you like them!

The Freshman JV football players from El Camino Real Charter High School have been putting in the work, learning proper movement from the start, and the growth already has been incredible.

Last cycle, we taught them power cleans and front squats. This cycle they’re learning hang power sn**ches, cleans, and jerks.
