Los Padres Locos are off the kayaks, through the transition area, and now are on the mountain bike segment of the course. Jeff’s least favorite discipline and probably my favorite! There is only one biking section on this race which is fairly unusual for a 24+hour race. However this is a paddle heavy race with multiple kayaking segments (ugh!).

The tracker snafu has been resolved and you can watch Jeff and Rusty’s progress in real time. They just started the second kayak leg and are looking really strong!!

Live race tracking!! Los Padres Locos is #116. Unfortunately it seems like their tracker may not be working as they haven’t moved. I’m sure it will be resolved shortly.

Hey guys…this is Al from LPL. I’m not racing this time due to a broken collarbone from a mountain bike crash a few weeks ago. However I will be providing some updates and pictures as Jeff and Rusty navigate the Gold Rush Adventure Racing 30 Hr course.

In our pre-race email we were told to be ready for extreme heat as our #1 safety concern. They also said, “You may come across wildlife during the race. Most likely you’ll see deer, but you may also see bears, mountain lions and rattlesnakes. Our Course Director has seen rattlers on every scouting mission.” The “stinging nettle and poison oak” are way down the list of things to worry about.
And yes, we did pay money to put ourselves through this.
