We remember the heroes who served, the families who grieved, and the communities that came together.

Heroes get remembered, but legends never die.

37 years ago, the world lost a true champion. Lane wasn’t just famous for his bull riding. He was legendary for his humility, faith, and genuine kindness he showed everyone.

Just a few weeks after appearing on the cover of our 1989 rodeo program with his rival Red Rock, Lane had one last ride in Cheyenne. This moment changed the rodeo world forever: this tragic accident led to the development of the protective vest used in rodeo today that has saved countless lives.

The following year, in our 1990 rodeo program, Uintah County Sheriff and renowned cowboy poet Arden Stewart wrote a tribute to Lane.

HEALTH UPDATE: 2024 World Champion Dean Thompson announced today that he is cancer-free.

After more than 40 chemotherapy treatments, six lumbar punctures, and months of treatment for Burkitt’s Lymphoma, Thompson shared that his scans are clear and doctors have given him less than a 10% chance of the cancer returning.
