It’s almost time to hit the court! The Youth Volleyball All Skills Clinic kicks off Tuesday, September 8, giving young athletes the chance to learn the game, sharpen their skills, build confidence, and HAVE FUN!

Whether they’re picking up a volleyball for the first time or looking to take their game to the next level, this four-week clinic covers the fundamentals of serving, passing, setting, hitting, footwork, positioning, and game strategy.

Don’t wait! Registration is still open, but we’re just days away from the first session. Get your youth signed up NOW and make sure they’re ready to join the action!

2026 FRPA Conference | Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the 2026 FRPA Conference brought another great opportunity to learn, share ideas, and grow together as parks and recreation professionals across Florida.

Indian River County Parks Superintendent Steve Barako led an outstanding workshop focused on transitioning from the private sector to the public sector. Drawing from his extensive background in recreation, hospitality, and his experience with Disney, Steve shared valuable methodologies and perspectives to help professionals navigate the transition into local government while continuing to deliver exceptional experiences for their communities.

That commitment to excellence is something Steve brings to Indian River County every day. From the smallest details to the overall experience, he challenges our Parks Maintenance team to take pride in creating safe, clean, welcoming, and top-notch spaces where our community can recreate and enjoy the outdoors.

But the impact doesn't stop here in Indian River County. By sharing his knowledge, experience, and passion with municipalities and counties from across the state, Steve is helping inspire new ideas and elevate the standard for parks and recreation throughout the Sunshine State.

The 2026 Fall Adult Basketball League is ready to bring the competition, camaraderie, and energy back to the hardwood! Whether your team is chasing the championship or just looking for a great way to stay active and compete, this is your chance to get in the game.

Day 1 Recap | 2026 FRPA Conference

Day 1 of the 2026 FRPA Conference is officially in the books, and the energy here is electric!

With parks and recreation professionals from across Florida coming together under one roof, this conference is all about sharing ideas, exchanging knowledge, building connections, and learning from one another—all with one goal in mind: finding new and better ways to serve our communities.

Our Indian River County Parks, Recreation & Conservation team is active and making sure we’re playing our part in that mission. From collaborating with fellow industry professionals to connecting with nationwide vendors, our team is exploring new ideas, resources, and opportunities to help ensure we continue meeting the evolving needs of our community here in Indian River County.

We were also proud to see our very own Environmental Education Coordinator, Olivia, take the stage to lead an amazing workshop focused on facilitating experiential learning experiences for diverse audiences, with an emphasis on conservation wildlands. Her presentation highlighted the importance of creating meaningful, hands-on experiences that connect people with the natural world and inspire a deeper appreciation for conservation.

We love seeing our team get involved, share their expertise, learn from others, and pay it forward. That’s what makes conferences like FRPA so valuable—and we’re just getting started!

Did you know a group of tortoises can be called a crawl or a creep? And seeing a group of gopher tortoises together is especially unusual. These gentle reptiles are naturally solitary, so spotting multiple babies in one place is a pretty special sight!

Gopher tortoises are protected in the state of Florida, where they play an important role in the ecosystem. Gopher tortoises, even the adorable baby ones, should not be moved unless they are in the path of a car or bike! If you must move them, move them just out of the path of danger, in the direction they were originally heading!

Their burrows provide shelter for more than 350 other species, making them a true keystone species. 🌿🐢

A whole creep of tiny tortoises is definitely something to celebrate—and protect! 💚

The fields are getting a little extra TLC as our Park Maintenance crew works hard to get everything game-day ready! From fresh fields to that first kick, we’re getting closer to opening day at Dick Bird Park.
