We added a mail box to the arena today! Special thanks to Susanne Stover for donating the Pony Express game! The envelopes are made from durable plastic and each has dressage letters and addresses that match the cones around the arena. This is going to be fun!!

Megan and Roxy enjoyed a beautiful evening ride, with a Stop / Go game and a spelling game using the dressage letters. We focused on balance and posture as well as coordinated use of the reins, legs and verbal cues. Each lesson builds on the skills learned during the last, requiring multi-tasking through one challenge while having to think ahead and prepare for the next.

Andrea demonstrated some strong skills today with Eagle, bending through turns and smooth, fluid movement through the pattern. They were completely in sync, and the ride felt effortless. And, once again, we were treated to beautiful skies after a brief rain shower this afternoon.

Lily and Journey doing a figure eight while John and Eagle complete the "L."

These light obstacles teach proper use of legs and reins, improve riding posture, and enhance our communication with our horse.

One of the things that sets us apart as an adaptive riding program is the support team our students have during their lessons. Each lesson includes our instructor, Tara, and three or four trained volunteers serving as Side Walkers, Horse Leaders or Spotters. And, for some of our lessons, they even mount up and participate as a companion rider, like Lily and Journey did today, to add a different element to the lesson.

The weather cleared just in time this afternoon for John and Eagle to enjoy a great ride, with much cooler temperatures! Lily joined him with Journey as a companion rider, and they challenged each other through the obstacles.

Just as we got tacked up and ready to start training this afternoon, lightning moved in and forced us to head to the barn. We are rescheduling today's lessons for tomorrow afternoon, weather permitting, and will schedule another training opportunity for new volunteers within the next week.

Disappointed, but thankful for the cooler temperatures this system is supposed to be bringing us.

Happy Monday! We have training for new volunteers at 4:30 pm Tuesday! Come join us!!

Lessons Tuesday and Thursday evenings - and we're looking forward to some cooler, Fall-like temps for our rides!
