Introducing the newest member of the Parkview Grounds Team... but there's one problem—we need a name for it!
If you've played recently, you've probably seen our new robotic fairway mower quietly working on fairways nearest to the 1st pond. Its job is to keep the fairway at an incredibly consistent height, giving it that smooth, velvety finish.
The first time you see it, it might look like it's coming right for your golf ball... or even for you! Don't worry—it has sensors that detect obstacles and will stop before making contact.
Here's a fun fact: the mower uses small, pivoting razor-style blades. If it were to roll over a golf ball, the blades simply fold inward, so your ball wouldn't be damaged. Pretty amazing technology!
Now for the important part...
What should we name our newest grounds crew member? We already have Mark and Tom- showing off their straight lines and stripping abilities on the other fairways....
Someone suggested "The Green Machine," but since it's bright orange and mows fairways—not greens—we think it deserves a better name.
Leave your best suggestion in the comments! Funny, clever, golf-themed, or completely original—we can't wait to see what you come up with. If we choose your name, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing your creation is out there working every day at Parkview!
Parkview Fairways Golf Course
Parkview is a scenic golf course just 25 minutes from Rochester. Parkview is a family owned course. Parkview one of the best values in the Rochester area.
No highways or housing developments in sight, in fact the course is bordered by a serene park with two large 35 acre ponds. The course which itself is a manicured 175 acres sits in the middle of 350 acres of land! You have the option of challenging yourself to a championship course that is almost 6,800 yards long. However, most of golfers enjoy playing from our shorter tees which let every golfer have fun!
Who's making all that noise?
In no particular order
American Robin
Song Sparrow
Gray Catbird
Red Wing Blackbird?
I'm not great with the Frogs and Toads.... can anyone be specific with the calls you here on this video?

Who designed Parkview Fairways?
Archibald “Pete” Craig was nearly 80 years old, with many local course builds under his belt, when he agreed to design and help oversee the construction of Parkview.
According to his obituary, Pete was born in Northville, NY, and always enjoyed playing golf. He started out at the Sacandaga Golf Course and played courses across the country. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, he enrolled in the Army and served as a gunnery instructor. When he returned home, he began designing golf courses.
Pete went on to design more than 40 courses. His first was Bay Meadows in Glens Falls, followed by courses including Penfield Country Club here in Rochester, Shadow Lake(s) & Pines, Twin Hills, and eventually Parkview Fairways.
After reading more about Pete, it seems his style was to use the natural landscape to his advantage while making sure the course remained walkable for everyone. We know many people especially love the back 9, with Boughton Park framing the view.
What’s your favorite Pete Craig hole at Parkview — or maybe which design aspect do you find most frustrating? Do you notice similarities between Parkview and any other Pete Craig-designed courses?

Who's in charge of all the flowers by the clubhouse.... and how do they make those Poppies come up every year?
It's Nicolet! She works hard to keep the perennial bed going- then adding home grown marigolds into the mix. Did you know some of the Potted Geraniums are really old? Like, I don't know how old- but she brings them into the basement of the clubhouse each year.... gives them a little tiny bit of water... and somehow they regrow year after year. How she keeps the Poppy's so happy- no one knows.
Hat's off to Nicolet and all her hard work to keep things looking so nice inside and outside the clubhouse!

There’s a beautiful smell by 16 — I think it’s the white multiflora rose (between 17 and 16, and also in the woods by the 16 pond) As beautiful as it is, and as lovely as it smells, it’s actually an invasive species!
It can outcompete native plants and quickly turn an area into a thorny thicket-y mess that even Br'er Rabbit wouldn’t touch.

Thanks to Jack, our slightly tattered Gnome #1 is back out on the course!
(Gnome #2 is still waiting to make their arrival)
If you spot the blue coat gnome out on the course, be sure to say hello! Take a picture and share it with us. The first 5 people to post their gnome photo will receive a free small bucket of range balls.
Have fun, and happy gnome hunting!

Congratulations to Tom T. for a well deserved Hole-in-One on #6. Witnessed by his friends Tim M. and Jim D. on May 17th.
"The ace belongs to the golfer, but the memory belongs to the friends who witnessed it."

A beautiful end cap to a nice weekend!
- no rain, not even a passing, threatening cloud
- breezy, but not not a wind storm
- cool early, but not all day!
What else could we ask for!
Before Parkview was Parkview, there was Locust Grove Farms. First a poultry farm, then cash crops...then golf course. Some of the land is still "farmed" which only adds to the ambience of playing golf in the Finger Lakes. The fields adjacent to holes 6, 7 & 8 are hay fields which were cut yesterday and chopped and taken away today. Farming and all the implements and technology has come a long way from what was common for our farm when I was little. Everything seems more precise, bigger and it all moves a little faster than it used to. Here are some old pictures of our farm... Along with a video showing what all that noise was if you were playing a round of golf this evening.

Hole's 2-3-4 cart path areas.... "what in the Sam Hill is going on?"
(yes, change does make some of us pretty upset... https://storiesaboutnames.wordpress.com/2024/04/07/sam-hill/)
After years of golfer frustration, we’ve officially begun major cart path renovations from the front of #2 Green through #4 Tee.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as the paths have been updated — with stone added, slight rerouting near #3– #4 Tee, and the removal of the path in front of #2 Green.
These improvements are designed to enhance the overall golfing experience and improve safety, especially with the path now moved away from the pond heading toward #4 Tee.
Thank you for your continued support while we complete these upgrades!
