🎣 Anglers don't need to wait until FWP imposes hoot-owl restrictions. With these six tips, you can help reduce stress on our coldwater species!
> Fishing only during the morning when water temperatures are lowest.
> Bringing hooked trout to the net as quickly as possible to reduce lactic acid buildup.
> Keeping trout in the water when removing the hook. If you must take a photo of a trout out of water, doing it as quickly as possible.
> Considering mountain lake or stream fishing during late summer.
> Wetting your hands before handling trout to protect their mucous skin coating.
Remember to follow all restrictions and closures. Up-to-date information here: https://fwp.mt.gov/news/current-closures-restrictions

It’s well-known that a spring snowstorm isn’t enough to deter Montanans from enjoying the great outdoors! 🚤
So, whatever weather this Memorial Day weekend brings, our watercraft inspectors will help you get out on the water. Stations will have extra staff to account for increased traffic, but please plan on a little extra travel time. And remember, the best way to speed your inspection is to show up with your watercraft cleaned, drained, and dried. For more information on inspection stations, visit https://fwp.mt.gov/ais
