For many at Pickleball Virginia Beach, staying active is part of their daily routine. But this week's combination of oppressive heat, high humidity and smoky air has forced some to rethink just how long they stay on the court.

"It's miserable right now. It's just so hot but it's good to get out and sweat and just enjoy the game," Ben Ellingsworth said.

Ellingsworth says it's not finding the motivation to play that's difficult — it's finding the endurance to stay outside.

🔥🏓 Championship Night brought out the best of our High Intermediate/Advanced Men’s Doubles Division! 🏆

This division came ready to compete with intense rallies, hard-fought matches, and championship-level energy from start to finish. The players even helped us create the perfect viewing area by moving the bleachers so everyone could watch the playoff battles unfold. 👏

The finals were so competitive that the teams decided to raise the stakes and go best of three to determine the champions! 🔥 After an incredible night of play, we celebrated with food, drinks, and the PVB community coming together. 🍕🍻

Championship Night was filled with competitive games, big smiles, lots of laughs, and even a little PVB redecorating! 😉 The players helped create the perfect fan zone by moving the bleachers into place so everyone could sit back, cheer, and enjoy the playoff action. 👏

The night was all about great competition, good sportsmanship, and an awesome group of players enjoying the game together. We finished things off with food, drinks, and plenty of time to celebrate the season. 🍕🍻

🎉🎂 Happy 67th Birthday, Jim! 🥳

We had the perfect surprise party planned… until Jim decided to show up to the office early! 😂 With giant 6️⃣ and 7️⃣ balloons sitting out, the team had to think FAST. So the team told him they were actually for “Jon”… who was turning 76. 🤷‍♂️🎈🤣

Somehow, he bought it! 😆 The surprise was saved, the food was amazing 🍕🌮🍰, everyone had a great time, and of course there was plenty of pickleball! 🏓

Happy Birthday, Jim! Thanks for being such a good sport—and for making the “Jon is 76” story one we’ll be laughing about for a long time! 🎉🎁😂
