The Starting Strides’ program provides scholarships to schools with economically disadvantaged communities to help eliminate the barriers that prevent students from running the Operation Smile Shamrock Final Mile.

This year, 850 students received:
👟 A pair of running shoes
🧦 Socks
🏁 Entry into the Final Mile
🚌 Transportation to and from race day

Thousands of students from 100+ schools took over the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, bringing unmatched energy, big smiles and incredible finish line moments 🎉

We’re proud to continue the tradition of giving back—awarding donations to the top 3 large and top 3 small schools with the highest participation. These funds help purchase new PE equipment - keeping students active, healthy, and moving all year long 💪

SMALL SCHOOLS
1st: Creeds Elementary - 75%
2nd: Norfolk Collegiate - 43%
3rd: Veritas Collegiate- 42.8%

LARGE SCHOOLS
1st: Cooke Elementary - 49%
2nd: Alanton Elementary - 43%
3rd: Kingston Elementary - 39%
