Greens Restoration Update Hopefully most people have heard the news by now, but if not—we are in the process of restoring the greens at Cavalier to brand new surfaces. The USGA recommends regrassing greens every 20 to 25 years, and ours are now 23 years old. Over time, an organic layer builds up in the greens profile, making it increasingly difficult to manage drainage and control pathogens. By stripping away this layer—typically 4 to 6 inches thick—we’re able to reconnect with the sterile sand base and replace it with fresh, sterile mix. This also gives us the opportunity to replant with newer cultivars of turfgrass that offer greater resistance to disease, heat, and shade. These improved grasses create a tighter leaf canopy, resulting in firmer greens and smoother ball roll—something every golfer appreciates. Last week, we began applying herbicide to eliminate the existing turf. This step is crucial for preventing contamination from old varieties and helps the sod break down more easily for removal and construction. Our contractor is scheduled to begin work on August 5th. Until then, you’ll see ongoing turfkill and prep on the greens and surrounding areas. We kindly ask everyone to stay off the golf course during this phase to ensure a successful transition and to protect the work being done. We’re excited about the improvements ahead and appreciate your support and patience during this process.
