CATF IS PERMANENTLY CLOSED
5/16/25 (Vista, CA) – It is with great regret that we announce the permanent closure of the California Training Facility (CATF) in Vista, California. CATF was created in 2018 by California Skateparks to serve both elite Olympic skateboarders as well as aspiring amateurs. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we can no longer continue operations at the facility. As a result, all programs, including the Development Program, have been discontinued. Despite the unexpected circumstances, we remain grateful for the opportunity to have supported the skateboarding community.
Opened ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, CATF provided skateboarding’s first Olympians access to world-class Park and Street courses so they could train in a private setting. The facility also fulfilled a secondary role as a full-scale experimental site for California Skateparks’ construction and design teams to refine, validate, and evolve our temporary competition-course construction techniques. This allowed California Skateparks to modify CATF’s Park and Street courses over the years to meet the training needs of elite competitors.
Located in skateboarding’s Southern California heartland, CATF was home to the sport’s biggest stars—athletes who became household names after their success at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Teams from around the globe have spent countless hours at CATF, which was also the Official Training Center for Team USA.
More than half of all skateboarders competing at the Paris 2024 Olympics trained at CATF in the months leading up to the Games, including more than half of all Medalists. This is just one example of the impact the facility has had on international competitive skateboarding—an impact that made CATF the Home Of Champions. (SEE IMAGES FOR FULL TEXT)

This is . He, along with 21 other Men and 22 Women, is getting ready to compete in the Skateboarding Park event. Alex could be seen preparing/training here at in the weeks and months leading up to Paris, but not exclusively. It’s probably part of his personality to want to mix it up, but it’s also the best way to take full advantage of the TF—not just for what we offer (competition street and park courses), but for where we are. CATF is in the epicenter of global skateboarding, if that can still be said of anywhere. Here in Vista, California, we’re surrounded by several of the most famous skateparks and private ramps, and so many top international skaters call the region home. So, on any given day, at any given skatepark (including CATF), Alex is bound to run into friends and fellow pros. They skate together, lift one-another’s game, and that—plus the diversity of terrain they ride—allows them to arrive in Paris ready for anything. This probably explains Alex’s recent posts, featuring moments of downtime in the French Capital, vs. “training” highlights. Alex is relaxed. Alex is in Europe. Alex is Italian—so he’s at home. Not so much in Paris, per se, but in the Olympic skatepark, among friends, on his skateboard. Having seen Alex destroying CATF, we can only imagine what he’s bound to unleash in Paris! And we can’t wait to see. Can you? Buona fortuna, Alex! 🇮🇹 📸
