THE BENCH DOESN’T OWE YOUR KID AN APOLOGY. 👀🔥
Somewhere along the way, parents started treating playing time like something their kid was entitled to instead of something they had to EARN.
Your daughter isn’t getting the innings she wants? GOOD. Now we’re about to find out what kind of competitor she actually is.
Because it’s pretty damn easy to have a great attitude when you’re the starter, getting all the opportunities, and everything is going your way. But what happens when you’re NOT the first option? When another kid is performing better? When you’re standing on the sidelines watching someone else do the job you desperately want?
THAT’S WHERE CHARACTER GETS EXPOSED.
Does she get pi**ed off and go to work? Does she start asking questions, putting in extra reps, and finding ways to get better? Or does she go home and listen to Mom and Dad explain why the coach is the problem?
And listen, bad coaches exist. Favoritism exists. There are absolutely situations where parents need to step in. But let’s stop pretending that EVERY time your kid isn’t playing, someone has done her wrong.
Sometimes your kid simply isn’t the best option RIGHT NOW. And that’s OKAY.
What isn’t okay is teaching her that the answer to every uncomfortable situation is finding somewhere easier to play.
We preach toughness, resilience, accountability, and raising strong young women, but the second our kids experience something that bruises their ego, we’re ready to fight their battles.
How the hell are they supposed to develop grit if we keep removing everything that requires it?
I’ll tell you what I respect. The kid who gets overlooked and doesn’t make it everyone else’s problem. The kid who shows up the next day with a chip on her shoulder and something to prove. The kid who decides she’s going to become so damn good that the coach has no choice but to put her on that field.
THAT’S A DAWG. THAT’S A COMPETITOR.
The bench can either light a fire under your ass or become another excuse for why you’re not where you want to be.
And parents, sometimes the best thing you can do for your daughter is stop trying to make everything fair and let her figure out how to FIGHT for something.
Are we raising competitors, or are we raising kids who need someone else to make the road easier? đź‘€
