After winning Olympic Bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Games, Jimmy Pedro’s first celebration wasn’t on the podium. It was in the arms of his father, Big Jim.

Behind every champion is a story of sacrifice, early mornings, long drives, unwavering belief, and countless moments when a parent refuses to give up on their child’s dream. This photo captures all of that in a single embrace.

The medal may have been won by Jimmy, but this moment belonged to both father and son.

Today, we’re reminded that success is rarely a solo journey. It’s built by the people who stand beside us, support us, and believe in us long before the world ever notices.

Thank you, Big Jim, for helping shape not only an Olympian, but a leader who continues to impact generations of judoka through Pedro’s Judo Center.

What makes this promotion even more meaningful is that it was his sons who inspired him to begin his own judo journey. Watching them train, learn, and grow on the mats motivated Dan to step out there himself and embrace the challenge. Since then, he has shown incredible dedication, perseverance, and a willingness to learn every step of the way.

There is something powerful about a father and his children sharing the same passion, supporting one another, and growing together through the lessons of judo. The mats have become a place where memories are made, confidence is built, and family bonds become even stronger.
