Sharon White is well known throughout New England as a leading dance instructor, with accolades from teachers, students, and professionals alike.
She had begun dancing at the age of five, and began teaching dance as an adult instructor. She has developed particular expertise in jazz and tap. Her teachers include such locals:Grace Bates of Cambridge, Bill Fowler of Medford, and Karen Bernard of Winchester. Her other dance instructors were Susan Alt, Judythe Lokich, Pam Raff, Valerie Marcantonio. Sharon studied Master Dance Programs with Dia
ne Walker, Lane Alexander, and Fayard Nicholas of the Nicholas Brothers. Sharon began her transition from performance to teaching in 2004, and since that time has offered numerous dance instructional programs through various civic and community organizations including the Arlington Continuing Education Center, Winchester Recreation Department, YMCA Of Somerville, Senior Center in Winchester, and Children’s Sacred Dance for the Winchester Methodist Church, as well as the Dance Place,Tufts University Catholic Center and Somerville Public Schools and Stoneham Recreation. She majored in Drama at Tufts University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree. She has studied music and theatre at Kodally Center Of America, Emerson College and UMass Boston. She has performed in numerous dance studio and community theatre productions over the past 20 years, most notably with the North Reading Community Theatre, appearing in show productions of Anything Goes, 42ND Street, and George M., and the Medford Community theatre productions of Godspell and You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown. She has performed for the annual Winton Club Cabaret Show, a fundraiser benefit for the Winchester Hospital since 1993 and a fundraiser for the Agless Follies in Winchester. She has choreographed tap dance pieces: selections from or such American Bandstand, Never on Sunday, Jailhouse Rock, All I Want For Christmas, As Long As I am Singing, Give Me A Kiss To Build A Dream On, Sweet Georgia Brown, and movie soundtracks from Corrina, Corrina, Take Me Out To The Ball Game and Good Morning. People ask me, "Can I learn to Tap Dance'? And I say to them, "Yes". It takes time and patience but you can do it. The more you practice your craft the better you will become.
