Cook Show Lambs Structure, Muscularity, Functionality, Utility. Trying to breed the Legacy Traits not chase the trend David and Lysa lamb 150 Hampshire cross ewes.

They sell into the club lamb niche while avoiding dwarf gene carriers. They met at Louisville. David proposed at a show in Utah and they honeymooned while David judged at a show in Maine. The Cook family started raising purebred sheep in 1891 and were showing nationally from rail car by 1906. David has been around the show ring his entire life. David judged his first National Show at Louisville in 1987 and has judged in 29 states. He bred National Champions in each of the breeds he has raised. David has won Supreme awards from Maryland to California and from the North American at Louisville to the World Sheep and Wool Congress in Alberta. Lysa won Champions and Supreme awards on the west coast before they married. David and Lysa dispersed their purebred sheep in 2014. They won a National Champion in their final show. In the previous 22 years they won 58 Champion, Reserve Champion, and Premier Exhibitor Awards at Louisville and National Shows. They are especially thankful to Mike Stitzlein for his friendship and partnership on stud rams as they continue a lifetime of raising sheep in another segment of the livestock industry.

Moving fence on Pasja the last rotation. Wether ewes beginning to lamb in two weeks working for their living. If you are interested in FF sheep with muscle and that are easier keeping, stop by for a look when in Ohio. If you want ewes and lambs that are super shallow, pinch hearted, and need year around supplementation our flock is really not your kind.

First puppy meets its new owner. Katelyn thought Adam Coleman was picking it up next week. She picked her out three weeks ago and been counting the days until she got her puppy. Easier to see them go when they’re going to a good home.

One of my standard sheep judging lines is, "Time sorts genetic merit better than people do." That also applies to dogs. Consistency complicates selection. I need to decide which puppy is the best one for my final working dog, as at my age I won't need another. I can't even decide which is cutest, let alone which will have the most utility.

Reserve Champion in New Mexico yesterday. Thanks to the Barela family for putting their trust and efforts into our all FF program again for the third year. Not as successful as the previous two years, but as Meat Loaf sang, “Well, don’t be sad cause two out of three ain’t bad.“ And congratulations to Jeremiah Young and Gene Winn on the Champion because when our lamb left Ohio for New Mexico in March, I thought he was pretty good.

Puppies at 11 days. Starting to open eyes and walk instead of just eating, sleeping, and sliding around like fat little seals. Four are now spoken for. And momma wants to get back in the barn and go to work.

At 70 years old I thought Sis would be my last dog. But here I am still raising sheep, so needed to think about my next dog. Sis is now 7 and I decided to breed her. She just had 7 puppies. Four are red and three classically marked. Six are females. I have only bred my dogs to get my next helper on the farm. These puppies are the 4th generation from the original import. I will keep the one I like the best and sell the rest. Sire is a dog Ethan Staley saw working in a feedlot in Kansas and bought. He both herds and tracks well. Sis has not been used in a track since I let someone younger do the work of getting lambs ready for shows. Her sire worked well as a herding dog or a tracking dog. If you are looking for a Border Collie puppy, I plan on posting pictures as they grow and I select the one I will keep as they develop.
