Perspective 🙌🏽

Being in a forest that is millenia old, with trees that hurt my neck to stare up, does wonders for changing perspective. 🌳

For shaking me out of my comfortable patterns and mindset. It reminds me how fleeting life is. These trees have stood for thousands of years. The span of my life is just a blip on their radar. So I owe it to myself to put aside fear and insecurity.

Life is short, my friends. Leap forward into the unknown. Do the things you've always wanted to do but tell yourself you can't. Because you CAN. It just takes determination and a change in perspective. 😘

Cultivating strength. 💪🏽

I’ve never felt and been stronger in my life - mentally and physically. And I have yoga to thank for that. Yoga has taught me to endure, hold strong, and to gently push my boundaries. Push when I’m dripping with sweat and think I can’t do one more chaturanga, and conversely, push to find stillness when my mind is going a million miles an hour.

Strength is not only found in the muscles and joints. Yoga teaches us to use the physical practice to dive deep into our inner selves. To self-reflect and examine the stories we tell ourselves. To be strong enough to admit when we are wrong, or strong enough to stand up and uphold our truth even if it rubs people the wrong way.

Yoga is my path to cultivate inner and outer fortitude. It has helped me weather many a storm and my wish for you, dear friend, is that you find what makes you feel strong, and keep soldiering on. Gently. Of course.

Ebb and Flow. ✨

For quite some time I’ve felt stuck in my yoga practice. I’d lost the zest and passion that drew me to yoga all those moons ago. My practice instead became something I had to do. Something I should do. And if I didn’t do it, I would feel a bit ashamed as a yoga teacher. But instead of coming to my mat with expectations and demands to be met, I now let my practice take me where it will. Whether that’s sweating it out and turning myself into a pretzel, or just laying on my bolster in child’s pose for an hour. I’ve never felt more in love, free, and grounded in my practice.

So this is my encouragement to you to be gentle with yourself. It’s natural for all things to have a cycle of ebb and flow, but the things you want to happen will happen, with time and grace.

💕

Silence and solitude is a balm for the soul. As is getting out of SoCal’s perpetual smog layer. 🌬🌲
