jiujitsu
If it doesn’t have clinch it’s not Muay Thai.
One aspect of Muay Thai that makes it unique from many other striking martial art forms is the inclusion of grappling within the art..
The Muay Thai clinch shares many similarities to the standing grappling arts like wrestling and judo in its use of strategic leverage for the purpose of off balancing and destabilizing our opponent. However unlike other grappling martial arts, the goal of the Muay thai clinch isn’t necessarily positional control/dominance. The end purpose is to create opportunity to facilitate more violence in the forms of elbows, knees, and sweeps.

Introducing Coach Landon!!
Landon’s first experience of jiu jitsu was learning how to choke out friends at his cousin’s birthday party as a young teen. It wasn’t until he was 19 that he found it wasn’t just some kind of birthday hazing ritual and instead was something he could get to practice and learn at a school regularly!
Ever since then, Landon fell in love with nogi jiu jitsu and has been doing so for over ten years, up until COVID, when he took a 5 year hiatus. Having recently found his way back to training and to a new home at Virtue Martial Arts, he brings his years of training experience, passion for sharing the art of jiu jitsu with all, and playful, welcoming, and warm spirit to the coaching team.
Off the mats, Landon is a therapist and sport psychology professional specializing in working with individuals who have experienced complex trauma and athletes. Outside work you can find him in nature, spending time with friends, family, and animals, or practicing yoga and meditation.
Landon’s first foundational Nogi BJJ class will be this coming Saturday starting at 10AM. Anyone is welcome to come out to show support and have some fun in the process !!! Ossss
