🐾 A Message from Sadie Mae…

Mom and Dad went out tonight to gather supplies for Field Day and came home with some rather important news.

They met Robin, whose girl Marceline just happens to be… MY SISTER! 😳

Apparently, I have several brothers and sisters living around the area—and no one thought to mention this to me sooner??? I have been out here believing I was one of a kind!

Well… I suppose I still am. 💅

That’s right. While I’ve been holding down the porch, greeting my public and supervising this entire operation, I’ve had siblings scattered all over the area!

Now I can’t stop wondering about them…

Do they have my good looks?
Do they talk as much as I do?
Do they love belly rubs and blow dryers?
Do they supervise their humans?
And most importantly, do they also expect snacks for simply being adorable?

I may be spending tonight dreaming about a porch full of familiar faces, wagging tails and family members I haven’t met yet. 💭🐾

And speaking of reunions… we’re planning a very special Sadie Mae Field Day in October. I am thinking my newly found brothers and sisters should be invited to come visit!🤔🐾

Just imagine it: a whole gathering of Sadie Mae relatives. The humans may not be prepared. 😂

🎁 A LITTLE BOX CAN CARRY A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE 🎁

Fires Creek Outdoors is honored to be a local box pickup location for Operation Christmas Child!

Through this Samaritan’s Purse ministry, simple shoeboxes are filled with toys, school supplies, personal-care items, and other thoughtful gifts for children around the world. Each box is an opportunity to meet a child’s physical needs while sharing the love and hope of Jesus Christ.

If your family, church group, Sunday school class, workplace, or group of friends would like to pack a box, stop by the shop and pick one up. We also have information available to help you choose an age group and pack it properly.

One box. One message of love ❤️

It’s simply one more way our little mountain community can come together and send some Christmas joy far beyond Warne.

Boxes and packing information are available during our regular hours:

🧶 FREE EXPLORERS CLUB FIELD DAY
Saturday, September 19 • 11am–2pm

Maker Kari of Oma’s Mountain Weaving will be joining us for a hands-on afternoon of traditional fiber crafts. Come learn, create and try something new!

Field Day is FREE and open to ALL AGES—grown-up Explorers are always welcome, too.

🪑 Please bring a chair! We’ve got plenty of porch spirit, but our chair supply has yet to catch up.

Maker Jeff of WNC On The Fly Fishing Co. is headed to the Hiwassee for a guided day on the water.

🚙 THE PORCH IS GOING ON THE ROAD! 🌲

Fires Creek Outdoors has been invited by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission to be part of National Hunting & Fishing Day at Haywood Community College!

We reckon if we can’t take the whole porch with us, we’ll just pack as much of it as we can fit in the truck. Greg and Julie will be there introducing folks to Fires Creek Outdoors and sharing a little piece of Warne with Clyde.

This is a FREE, family-friendly event with fishing, archery, outdoor demonstrations, wildlife education, crafts, food trucks, vendors, giveaways and plenty more. You can also watch college lumberjack teams compete in the annual Woodsmen’s Meet!

So load up the family, take a road trip to Clyde and make a day of it. Be sure to find the Fires Creek Outdoors table and stop by to say hello—we would love to see some familiar faces from back home!

We’ve got a mighty full week ahead—new goods, fresh gems, talented Makers, fly lines hitting the water, a bear-naming contest and a certain four-legged employee reporting for duty on Sunday. 🐾

🏕️ THURSDAY | 10–5
The shelves are filling up with new finds! We have rugged and downright stunning pieces from Dog Bone Knives, restocked devotionals and Baby Bigfoot books, plus new children’s books arriving just in time for fall.

🍂 FRIDAY | 10–5
Come shop, wander and visit awhile—and if you want to join Maker Jeff’s fly-fishing trip on Saturday, don’t drag your waders!

Saturday is shaping up to be a big Maker day!

Maker Kari of Oma’s Mountain Weaving will lead our Fires Creek Explorers Club Field Day from 11–2. She’ll be sharing several traditional ways to make cords and bracelets, including friendship bracelets, the lucet fork and kumihimo.

Field Day is:

✅ Completely FREE
✅ Open to ALL ages
✅ Hands-on and beginner-friendly
✅ A fine excuse to learn something new on the porch

Please bring a chair so you can settle in comfortably. Whether you’re 7, 47 or 97, you’re welcome to join us. Explorers belong on the porch—and curiosity doesn’t have an age limit!

Meanwhile, Maker Jeff will be leading Saturday’s fly-fishing trip on the Hiwassee River. If you’ve been thinking about going, this is your last chance to get signed up before Friday at noon.

🐾 SUNDAY | 12–4
Sadie Mae will be on Porch Pup Duty—accepting compliments, belly rubs and any official business she feels qualified to supervise.

⛏️ GEM MINING ALL WEEKEND
The Warne Mining Company gem mine will be open every day we are, and the buckets have been freshly loaded with new gems. Bring the young explorers—or the grown ones who still light up over a sparkly rock. We don’t judge. We understand.

🐻 DON’T FORGET TO NAME OUR BEARS! 🛶
The two bears in our new canoe sign are still waiting on names, and one winning entry will receive a bear-patch hat and a book!

Our new canoe sign has found its place, but the two bears aboard are still answering to “Hey, you!” That simply won’t do.

These two have already claimed the best seat in Warne, picked up a couple of paddles and made themselves the newest members of the Fires Creek Outdoors crew. Now they need names—and we’re handing that job over to you!

Apparently, “day off” is mountain-shop-owner language for “go visit other farmers, makers and small businesses.” 😂

I spent part of today wandering around the Brasstown Farmers Market and visiting Scroggs Farm—and it was just what I needed. There were handwoven baskets, plants and flowers, locally made gifts, and some absolutely beautiful woodwork from The Caffeinated Crow. Y’all know I can’t walk past a table full of handcrafted goodness without stopping to admire it…and possibly getting ideas. 👀

But the best part was visiting with the folks behind it all. Around here, farmers markets aren’t just places to shop. They’re where neighbors catch up, makers swap stories and you leave with a little more appreciation for the talent tucked into these mountains.

It was a mighty fine way to spend a day off—even if I did come home thinking about twelve new projects. 😂

🧶 FIELD DAY ROLL CALL! Who’s coming this Saturday?
