We’ve gotten this question a million times the last few weeks with people finishing their club seasons, so let’s address it!
One of the biggest recruiting mistakes athletes make is waiting until coaches start recruiting them before they start preparing to be recruited.
Recruiting is about more than volleyball. Coaches evaluate:
- Skill
- Academics
- Communication
- Athleticism
- Character
There is no one-size-fits-all recruiting timeline. Every athlete’s journey is different, and comparing yourself to others rarely helps. Boys and girls are different as well!
Instead, focus on finding the right mentors, coaches, and support system to help you develop in all areas of your game and life.
Stay patient, but get active.
The most recruitable athletes are often the ones who take ownership of their development, seek opportunities, ask questions, build relationships, and help themselves along the way.
Stay focused on your growth. Stay committed to the process. Stay steadfast on your own journey.
The athletes who find the right opportunities are usually the ones who prepare long before anyone is watching.
