Important information!

An important update from our federal partners, the U.S. Forest Service:

“An unauthorized gathering—the Rainbow Family—is forming on the Bradford Ranger District of the Allegheny National Forest. We are managing the incident to protect people and the forest. The incident is located approximately 6 miles east of Tidioute, PA, in Warren County along Forest Road 119.

We have mobilized a National Incident Management Team, which has experience with gatherings of this size. The team is working side-by-side with Tribal, state, county and local partners, sharing updates, setting safety measures, and enforcing the law to reduce impacts on the land and nearby communities.”

Currently, the estimated attendance is approximately 81 attendees. This number is expected to grow with peak attendance projected for July 4.

The Rainbow Family of Living Light is a loose-knit group of people who gather annually on a national forest. They describe themselves as having no leaders and no organization.

According to the Forest Service, groups of 75 or more on National Forest System lands must have a noncommercial group-use permit. The Rainbow Family has historically declined to obtain a permit, stating they have no leaders to sign; courts have upheld the Forest Service’s authority to require and enforce permits for large group use.
