Barbara Henry asked if her son Justin could volunteer at the Y. ☀️

The answer was immediate: Absolutely.

Justin is 24 and has autism. Barbara, who is blind, found that same acceptance in her own experience there.

In water fitness, her instructor calls out right hand and left hand so she can participate right alongside everyone else. She has also made close friends at the Y. 💛

"We love going to the Y. It's definitely a huge part of our lives. It's like a second home."

Celebrating Dom Doiron, the new Executive Director of the Kent County YMCA 🎉

Dom joined Kent County in 2012 as a Member Navigator and has grown with the branch ever since, serving as Senior Member Navigator and Membership Director before stepping in as Operations Director in 2022.

As our CEO Karen Santilli shared, "At each step of his career at Kent County, Dom has demonstrated the leadership and judgment to take on greater responsibility."

The Kent County YMCA Swim Challenge is back on Sunday, October 25!

Our Sea Otter Swim Team will hit the water for four hours, swimming lap after lap to raise funds for the Y’s Annual Campaign—and you can be part of it!

Susan Kelly's story at the Y began when she moved to Rhode Island. 👋

What struck her first was who was in the building.

"What I was struck with immediately was the range in ages of people who go to the Y, but also people who work at the Y. It has such a community feel."

People from every part of the community. Different ages, different backgrounds, in the same place at the same time.

Susan knows names now. She says hello. And when someone is having a day where they'd rather stay home, she tells them anything is better than nothing. ✨

The encouragement gets passed from one person to the next.
