Hello everyone.
Hope this finds you well.
We are happy to inform you that New Wave will be open for classes today.
Kudos to sensei Dave for his tireless work plowing and keeping our streets (and lot) safe. We did lose a few parking spaces due to the snow, but we have enough to hold classes.
Please exercise caution if you have to park across the street.
We will see you soon
New wave staff.

Dear students/families,
We want you to know that we are thinking of each of you during this storm and hoping you and your families are staying safe. Severe weather can be unpredictable, and your well-being is always our top priority.
If you experience outages or any other emergencies, please donβt hesitate to seek support. You can call 211 to reach United Way of Rhode Island for help finding local resources, or 311 for assistance and information from the City of Providence. These services are great starting points if you need guidance or support.
Be sure to check your municipal resources.
Please take care of yourselves, check in on one another (particularly our aging members and those disabled or with limited mobility), and know that our martial arts community stands with you. We look forward to seeing you again once conditions are safe.
Stay safe and be well,
New Wave Staff

Five Animals of traditional Chinese martial arts, especially associated with Shaolin Kung Fu. Each animal style represents a unique fighting philosophy, physical method, and mental approach. Hereβs a detailed explanation:
1. Dragon π
-Nature: Both internal (mind, breathing, energy flow) and external (physical strength).
-Movements: Circular and flowing, often combining hard and soft strikes.
-Techniques: Heavy use of dragon claw grips, twisting, and coiling body motions.
-Focus: Balances power and fluidity. Builds flexibility, body unity, and spirit.
-Strategy: Control the opponent through redirection, locking, and sudden bursts of force.
2. Tiger π
-Nature: External (raw physical strength and endurance).
-Movements: Hard, direct, aggressive β overwhelming opponents with force.
-Techniques: Powerful tiger claw strikes, grabs, and rips.
-Focus: Develops bone strength and muscular power.
-Strategy: Attack relentlessly, breaking through defenses with brute force.
3. Leopard π
-Nature: External, but focused on speed and precision over brute strength.
-Movements: Fast, explosive, whip-like strikes.
-Techniques: Leopard fist (half-clenched fist) for quick, penetrating blows.
-Focus: Builds agility, coordination, and reaction time.
-Strategy: Hit fast, hit often, then retreat before counterattacks.
4. Snake π
-Nature: Internal (precision, timing, energy control).
-Movements: Smooth, fluid, weaving motions; no wasted effort.
-Techniques: Strikes to vital points, sliding deflections, pressure-point attacks.
-Focus: Develops chi (internal energy) and mental focus.
-Strategy: Wait for the right moment, then strike with pinpoint accuracy.
5. Crane π
-Nature: Internal (balance, control, precision).
-Movements: Graceful yet sudden, often performed standing on one leg.
-Techniques: Crane beak hand strikes, deflections, high kicks.
-Focus: Builds stability, focus, and refined striking.
-Strategy: Maintain distance, avoid direct force-on-force, and counter with precision.
