“My legacy has probably nothing to do with basketball. It’s more about the kids that I’m around and the kids that I’ve inspired.”

When Trae Young first arrived in Washington, he told Double Take Sports he wanted to make the same impact on kids in D.C. that he had in Atlanta. Today’s recognition reflects how he’s following through.

Young was named the NBA Cares Bob Lanier Community Assist Award offseason winner…his third career Community Assist Award.

Since arriving in Washington, Young and his foundation have committed $100,000 to DC CAP and DC Central Kitchen. He’s also visited local schools and pediatric patients and worked with more than 175 kids at his youth basketball clinic.

“I want to leave that same type of legacy here in D.C.”

“If the scenario arises, the scenario arises. We’ll deal with it.”

Following Maryland’s 37–30 homecoming loss to Rutgers, QB Malik Washington addressed the possibility of Mike Locksley being fired during the bye week.

The Terps have now lost 12 straight Big Ten games. Washington’s message: the team has to stay together, regardless of what happens.

Anthony Davis has spoken about wanting to mentor the Wizards young players. Carita Parks asked Alex Sarr what he’s learning from AD.

“Just their professionalism...seeing how they approach practice and games."

In a related follow-up, Sarr discussed how competing against high-level teammates like AD in practice also helps prepare him for opponents.

Double honors for the Mystics defense.

Shakira Austin was named to the 2026 WNBA All-Defensive First Team, and Sonia Citron earned Second Team honors, the first All-Defensive recognition of either player’s career.

Austin told DTS during the season that defense was a core piece of the Mystics identity, and the numbers back it up. She set the franchise’s single-season rebounding record with 408 boards, to go with career-highs of 9.5 RPG and 1.2 BPG. Citron became the first guard in Mystics history to post a 150-rebound, 45-steal, 25-block season.

It’s just the third time in franchise history that multiple Mystics have earned All-Defensive honors in the same season.

Congrats to both. 👏

Tre Johnson is having a solid preseason. DTS' Carita Parks recently asked Wizards head coach Brian Keefe where Tre's game has grown most.

Beyond his shooting, Keefe noted improvements in his defense and secondary playmaking.
