Maybe it was just written down as a typo…

And I say this as someone who very much an optimist, and even a bit of a hopeless romantic (and a professional matchmaker):

Love at first sight is not real

In fact, the research shows it’s actually love at *fourth* sight

One study had people rate the same faces over and over, and after seeing their pictures multiple times, attraction INCREASED

And peaked on look number four👀

The pleasure-center activity in the brain did, too

That’s exposure doing its quiet work…

Your brain likes what it recognizes, and recognition requires repetition

(Yes, this is why swiping quickly through profiles is making you LONELIER — you’re severing the potential for familiarity with a swipe as fast as you skip through your friends IG stories of the concert they went to last night)

Now, this does not mean you owe everyone four dates

But it DOES mean a lukewarm (or even neutral) first impression is incomplete data

And you owe it to YOURSELF as well as the person who gave their time to meet you to gather more information

Most couples weren’t strangers who locked eyes across a room and rode off into the sunset forever after

They were people who kept showing up until the picture sharpened…

Four encounters. Different contexts. Then you actually know something about the person you’ve agreed to meet on the pretext that there COULD BE a connection!

How much time are you wasting, and self-judgment are you BETRAYING by writing someone off before knowing anything about the potential that could absolutely exist?

Save this for the next time you almost write someone off after that one coffee that was just “okay”
..

You don’t need immediate fireworks on the first interaction (there’s no evidence that even in those rare scenarios, those sparks amount to anything)

But intentional, repeated encounters with a genuinely open heart?

That’s the stuff of LEGENDS

That’s where genuine connection starts

And that’s all I want for you🫶🫶🫶

And that is not accounting for religious preferences, political preferences, education, ethnic preferences, OR if you filter by marital history, kids from a previous marriage, etc

Out of 1,000 profiles shown to the female dating app user filtering for the above, only about 1 single man will meet every single qualifier listed (including fitness, marriage, age, and kids)

Look, this isn’t about judging your preferences, it’s about awareness

Because these numbers don’t even take into account any of HIS preferences

And these are pretty common asks I hear from women as a matchmaker

Next I’ll break down the numbers on what men ask for

Follow my page for all the inside info on dating PLUS advice to help you be matchable (from a professional matchmaker)

Lots of new faces around here recently so I wanted to say hi!!

I’ve also been an executive dating coach, working closely with singles on relationship skills, confidence/self concept work, and lifestyle elevation since 2019

My life’s mission has been: helping modern singles find timeless love

(Sometimes I really still can’t believe my JOB gets to be supporting people into the love they’ve always dreamt of💕)

I work with men & women, and have had the privilege of hosting private retreats with clients from Egypt, to Paris, to Las Vegas & NYC, to Switzerland and Milan

From never having a relationship, to multiple divorces, I’ve seen incredible singles with all kids of histories welcome lasting marriages🫶

I love love

And I’m an advocate for ENJOYING the dating journey

(I am *literally* writing the book on it — anticipating a release date later this year!!)

If you are TIRED of the common dating advice…that doesn’t work

And tired of not knowing where you’re going wrong

And tired of the cynicism, entitlement, and general anti-marriage content

The unspoken space between excitement and commitment is where most connections die

Unfortunately, that is primarily due to the unwillingness to have a hard conversation

Whether thats “what are we?” or “I noticed things are changing, here is what I need” it is MUCH EASIER to bail at this point than be vulnerable

I see it constantly

“Well I shouldn’t have to ask” is usually the response I get about this, and let me tell you: YOU DO HAVE TO ASK

You MUST ask someone for what you need
You MUST tell a stranger how their behavior makes you feel
You MUST be a willing teacher and learner if you are going to have a healthy, lasting relationship

Mindreading and unspoken expectations (set by social media & movies & besties) are where relationships die

If you have shared values, a similar vision for where you want the relationship to go, compatible goals, and at least base-level attraction…

There’s no reason you can’t make the connection work (and bring back the initial “spark”) EXCEPT unwillingness

Unwillingness to share
Unwillingness to ask
Unwillingness to learn
Unwillingness to teach
Unwillingness to let your partner be an imperfect person

Someone needed this gut-check, and I hope you know I share it with LOVE and the desire to help you become

Be sure to follow me for more ACTUAL dating advice (not just feel good slogans)

Ily my job is literally to help you get the love you want

So let’s do it, together🫶🫶🫶

I love September
I love love
I love the opportunity to choose to fall in love with the same man year after year

Take your time with dating

Be discerning about who you choose to commit to

And once you choose, learn how to STAY committed

Commitment is both a decision and a skill

And consistent GRATITUDE (expressed frequently) is one of the easiest & most effective ways to train yourself to stay & appreciate what is in front of you

Especially when it’s hard

That’s why Psychoanalyst Lori Gottlieb says the MOST crucial quality any person who wants partnership can possess is: FLEXIBILITY

Being non-rigid

Because both choosing the right person to build a relationship with AND nurturing that connection over the course of your life hinges on each partners’ ability to let the other be imperfect, to change, to grow, and to learn

If you’re both committed to learning each other & trying again daily, you WILL enjoy a beautiful & thriving marriage

Sending love to you
Cheering you along your journey to happily ever after
Always

Liv
