On Friday, Animal Wellness Action executive director Marty Irby penned our latest blog and then traveled to Saratoga, New York for meetings with the new CEO and Chairman of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority, Rep. Paul Tonko, D-N.Y., and others. The meetings came on the heels of a transparency critique of HISA by HISAWatchDog.org's advisor Joe Gorajec, the former chairman of the Association of Racing Commissioners International, and former executive director of the Indiana Racing Commission for 25 years. PLEASE SHARE: The Coalition for Horseracing Integrity worked for the better part of 6 years to get the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Act signed into law to help end the rampant abuse in the sport, especially doping. But the new Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority has had some major issues since they chose to part with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) who was supposed to oversee drug testing and enforcement. We made requests of the new Authority to collect more information but HISA didn't provide us with any of the data we asked for. Joe Gorajec, the former executive director of the Indiana Racing Commission and chair of the Association of Racing Commissioners International weighs in here in The Paulick Report.
