On Friday, October 4th, DC Judo was honored to welcome Counsellor Sagisaka and Ms. Nonaka from the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy of Japan to observe our practice. DC Judo members were eager to share their love of judo and to hear Counselor Sagisaka's insights regarding the value of sharing in the culture of other nations to build mutual understanding. We sincerely appreciated the opportunity to host Counsellor Sagisaka and Ms. Nonaka and look forward to taking advantage of some of the cultural opportunities offered by the Embassy of Japan, such as those offered by the Japan Information and Culture Center.

DC Judo was recently invited to celebrate the Olympics by demonstrating some judo at an Olympics-themed party at the Residence of the French Ambassador!
We taped together a tiny competition area and spent a few hours showing the party goers the high flying excitement of Olympic judo. Afterwards we joined in the festivities, sampling food, drink, and games to celebrate the United States, France, and the Olympic spirit.
Many thanks to NBCUniversal and French Embassy in the U.S. for the generous invitation to participate and to the DC Judo members who volunteered their time to share our sport!

DC Judo was privileged to host Gonoi Rina Sensei for our class on International Women's Day. This week, Gonoi Sensei was awarded the Secretary of State's International Women of Courage Award for leading a public campaign in Japan against sexual harassment. Gonoi Sensei is a tremendously accomplished judoka and has studied judo since the age of four. She not only helped teach us some of her favorite techniques, but also spoke about how the art of judo is not just about learning throws, but learning to fall and get back up. We congratulate Gonoi Sensei on her well-deserved award and hope to host her again on her next visit to Washington, D.C.!
Judo Saikou! (Judo is the best!)
