Premier Youth Basketball League

City gave Loudoun their welcome to the PYBL moment last night. City came out with high level intensity from the opening jump ball and built an early lead that was too much for Loudoun to overcome. Despite D.J Smith being out with injury, the City guards were a problem on both ends. Zane Piccioni lead the way with 18 points, Khalifa Dennis was a match up problem all night finishing with 17. The big fella Zakah Flood added 6 blocks controlling the paint on the defensive end. Om Desai was a bright spot for Loudoun he had 17 in the loss not allowing the City pressure to speed him up. Skilled guards, size and shooting ability. This City team will be one to watch this summer.

Prince William start the summer of strong wit a double digit win over Fairfax. Christopher Crank lead the way with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Crank went 9 - 9 from the floor and 5-7 from the line. Jordan Betz showed an ability to control the game from the point guard position. Despite getting there in the second quarter Desmond Morel was able to finish with 12 rebounds in the win. Foul trouble hurt Fairfax early, which affected them getting into an offensive rhythm.

Prince William Elite vs. Fairfax Elite

Last season Prince William did not have a Rising Stars team, so this is a new roster for their area.  Fairfax boasts several returner from last season’s rising stars team. Prince William brings a fresh face to the league with newcomer 6’7 Jaheem Payne.  Can Prince William make a statement in their season debut, or will Fairfax Elite start the summer with a big win?

City Elite vs. Loudoun Elite

City enters the night loaded with talent, led by PYBL veteran DJ Smith and newcomer 6’5 Zakah Flood. Loudoun will start off the season under a new coach with a few returners and 6’6 forward Landon Perkins.  Will City’s backcourt take control, will it be a battle of the forwards/center or can Loudoun Elite pull off an early-season upset?

Since the league started in 2014 Southern Maryland has always had an elite team in the championship conversation with high level talent. This 2026 summer group is no exception. Coach Rizz’s run n jump pressure defense has been a calling card for his teams and it gave PG fits last night. Speeding them up and forcing PG’s guards to make decisions under duress. Noah Dabney looks like an all league candidate. As he was one of three Southern Maryland players who finished with 20 plus. The other two being Kaden Whiltshire and Colby Smith. Ben Boston looks like a paint beast for the Cardinals and Keran Brown is capable of going off at any time. Despite the loss, 6’7 PG Foward Kingston Fansi showed he’s easily one of the top next level prospects in the league. Fansi finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds.

Coach EJ brought back two starters from last year’s elite division runner up team and they lead the way on day one. Kenyen Mitchell was a beast finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds, knocking down 4 threes. Caleb Wilson did what he’s done for years in the PYBL, showing his efficiency finishing with 13 points, going 3-4 from 3 with 0 turnovers as a primary ball handler. As a team, Alexandria shot 52 percent from 3 point range going 12-23. Despite the loss, Arlington showed some bright spots to build on. Liam Skinn had 19 points in the loss, Jacob Gorham added 13 points and 5 steals with a couple of tough buckets.
