Studio Spotlight ✨ Artist Paul Cunningham
Throughout Twist, you’ll find vibrant, dimensional canvases by artist .dc — each piece bringing color, movement, and energy into our three studio spaces.
Paul and Twist owner Ryan Hodgkinson have been training together for over a decade, continuing weekly TRX and Pilates sessions via Zoom since Paul’s 2023 move to Rhode Island.
Paul began his journey in 3D art at the Corcoran School of Art here in Washington, D.C., and his abstract, colorful work felt like a natural fit for the studio.
Paul’s art and our approach to Pilates share so much in common: movement, rhythm, control, balance, and intention. Each element is layered with purpose to create something dynamic, harmonious, and deeply connected.
We love how Paul’s work helps bring the Twist experience to life. ✨

Teacher spotlight: Meet Hannah
If you know her, you love her (until you’re holding teaser 😉).
Hannah started teaching at Twist Pilates last fall and brings an energetic, methodical approach to her classes. She is a Vida Pilates Comprehensively Certified Pilates Teacher and is known at Twist for her challenging but approachable Tower classes – where she integrates the best of the Pilates mat work with the equipment for a mindful, full-body practice.
Get to know Hannah:
🌀 How did you begin practicing Pilates?
I found Pilates in 2019 after I dislocated my knee. The physical therapist I was seeing recommended I try out a class. I went, it was hard, but I fell in love. I continued going back because it was an approachable challenge, and I loved how I felt during and after the class was over.
🌀 Why do you teach?
I love Pilates, and when I love something I have to pursue it full steam ahead. I am passionate about finding creative ways to help someone build a fundamental or progress in an exercise. It’s important to bring Pilates to anyone I come across in a way that is welcoming, approachable, and helps them learn as much information about their body as possible.
🌀 How would you describe your teaching style in three words?
Sharp, technical, and comedic.
🌀 What’s your favorite artist to have on your class playlists?
Beyoncé, Zara Larsson, and Stevie Wonder.
🌀 What is the best local place for a coffee after class?

Is this what they meant when they said Joesph Pilates drew inspiration from the movement of cats? 🐈
We’re kidding! But it’s true: Joesph Pilates observed how cats stretched and controlled their spine throughout movement, and believed that their regular stretching helped them maintain their agility. His original mat work was intended to provide the same spinal mobility, strength, and control for the human body!
