🎧 Exciting update! Own Your Time is now available as an audiobook.

If you enjoy listening to books while commuting, exercising, or doing chores around the house, this is a great way to experience it.

You can listen:
• On Audible (free with their membership trial)
• On Spotify if you have Premium

I do need to give one small disclaimer… the jazz music at the beginning is incredibly jazzy. I had absolutely no say in that creative decision. But honestly, it might be worth the listen just so you can cringe along with me. 😅

All jokes aside, I’m thrilled to have the message of family financial empowerment and time ownership available in audio now.

I’ll put the link to listen in the comments!

I recently had the honor of being interviewed by one of the most influential voices in personal finance, Jean Chatzky, on her podcast HerMoney.

Jean has helped millions of people improve their financial lives through her decades of work in media and education. From her 25 years as the financial editor on NBC’s Today Show to her bestselling books and the HerMoney community, she has been a powerful advocate for financial literacy.

So getting the opportunity to talk with her was a real privilege.

During the episode, we tackled listener questions about:

• How to know if you’re on track for retirement
• Whether you really need to max out your 401(k)
• When it might make sense to slow down retirement contributions
• How to think about reducing work hours to care for family

These are the kinds of decisions that come up when we start asking a bigger question: how do we use money to create a life with more time and flexibility?

I’m truly honored to be an upcoming guest on HerMoney.

Check out HerMoney with Jean Chatzky in the comments.

Big news for our Family Time Freedom community.

I was recently featured in CNBC Make It talking about Coast FIRE and why I believe time freedom is more important than retiring early.

My wife and I have built a net worth north of $1 million. Instead of grinding harder, we chose to scale back.

In my last corporate year, I made around $180,000 working 40 to 50 hours per week.

This year, I’m paying myself $100,000 working 20 to 25 hours per week.

More time with family. More focus on health. More intentional living.

That’s the goal.

If you’ve ever wondered whether financial independence has to mean extreme sacrifice, it doesn’t. You can secure your future and enjoy your life now.

Grateful to CNBC for the feature and grateful for all of you who continue to support this message.

Coast FIRE is not about quitting work. It is about reducing pressure.

If you have around $500,000 invested by age 40, you can be Coast FIRE. You still work to cover today’s expenses, but retirement savings do not need to dominate every decision.

For some families, this can even open the door to part time work and more time for the roles that matter most like parent, spouse, friend, or athlete.

These numbers assume about $90,000 per year in retirement spending and are meant to be a starting point.

I used my time in Washington DC for an early morning run at the National Mall 🇺🇸

Since going part time, I removed 20 to 25 hours of work from my week and added 5 to 7 hours of exercise:
- 3 hours cardio
- 2.5 hours strength
- 1 hour flexibility and stability

Even while traveling, I stick to the routine. Run past the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument, and strength training at Planet Fitness.

This is not about vanity.

It is about longevity, energy, and being strong enough to enjoy more years with my family.

Owning your time is about intentionally investing in what matters most.

I break down the full approach in my new book "Own Your Time". The book has sold over 2,600 copies and has been featured in CNBC and Yahoo Finance.

If you want to redesign your life around family, health, and freedom, check it out.

This is hindsight backed by math.

Invest $500 a month from age 25 to 65
You may end up with around $1.1 million, inflation adjusted

Start at 45 instead
About $245,000

Same dollars. Same monthly effort.
Nearly a $900,000 difference just from starting earlier.

Time is the real advantage.

After creating content online for 10 years, some cool opportunities start to open up…

The most recent opportunity was being invited to the US Capitol to meet with a variety of Senators to discuss the state of the country and how things can improve.

Learning from economic and financial leaders like Elizabeth Warren was a true honor.

Recognizing the great responsibility and privilege I have with my platform was my biggest takeaway.

I plan to continue to use it with integrity, truth and transparency.

Now … it’s time to head home.

Memento Mori —-> Carpe Diem!

Traditional FIRE works great for some people, especially high earners or those without kids.

But if you are a busy parent or professional looking for a less extreme path, Coast FIRE might be a better fit.

If you can invest about $280,000 by age 30, compound growth can carry your retirement without aggressive saving forever, while still living your life today.

These are rough targets based on a household spending about $90,000 per year in retirement. Your number might be higher or lower.
