We explore and celebrate how teenagers create community through dance, music, fashion and language. Humanities Council of Washington DC awarded UOY, Inc. Mr.
with their prestigious DC Community Heritage Project Grant (DCCHP) in June 2016, for a video project entitled, Doing the Nae Nae at Langston Terrace – Teens, Community and Culture. The project explores and celebrates how teenagers create community through dance, music, fashion and language. Uniting Our Youth, Inc. (UOY) established in 2008, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Wards 1 a
nd 5 in Washington, D.C. and provides support and recreational services for at-risk youth, young adults and their families. Some of the service areas include 1) after-school enrichment; 2) science, technology, engineering & mathematics; 3) gardening & environmental services; 4) conflict resolution and peer mediation; 5) employment workshops; and 6) life skills training. Clarence A. Miles is the UOY executive director and founder. He is highly regarded and enthusiastically respected by residents from both communities supported by UOY. The Alliance of Concerned Men in collaboration with 100 Fathers, Inc. awarded Mr. Miles the 2016 “Returning Citizens Father of the Year Award.” UOY is a recipient of the “Commitment to Excellence for Community Engagement Award” from the Court Services and Offender Supervision Agency. UOY has received several awards and acknowledgements from the Office of the Mayor of Washington, D.C. and the District of Columbia Housing Authority.
