In 1938, Armistice Day on November 11th was officially recognized as a federal holiday in America. In 1954, Congress was encouraged by VSO’s to switch the name “Armistice” with the word “Veterans”, following World War II and the Korean War, to be known as Veterans Day, to honor American veterans of all wars.

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, commemorates veterans of all wars on November 11th every year in the United States of America. This historical date was chosen in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month” of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I. November 11th 1918 is historically referenced as the end of “The Great War.”
