Three of the top 175-pound NJ medalists from 2026 return in 2027, including state finalist Gabe Logan of Delbarton 🥈

Over 200 175-pound wrestlers won more than half of their matches in New Jersey during the 2025-2026 season.

51 wrestlers who claimed 15 or more wins and a winning percentage of 60% will return again next season.

Joe Melchiore Takes on Future Olympic Gold Medalist Kendall Cross at 1990 World Team Trials 💪

Throwback Thursday 📺

Before Kendall Cross became an Olympic gold medalist in 1996, he faced one of New Jersey’s all-time greats at the 1990 World Freestyle Team Trials.

Three-time New Jersey state champion and four-time NCAA All-American Joe Melchiore battled Cross at 57 kg. Melchiore ultimately earned the 12-0 victory, and the footage offers a rare look at Melchiore competing against elite national competition in freestyle.

Who Wins Wednesday: Joe Melchiore vs. Anthony Knox 💥

This week's matchup features two of the greatest lower-weight wrestlers in New Jersey history ⚔️

Joe Melchiore of Highland in 1984 vs. Anthony Knox of St. John Vianney in 2025.

This matchup compares both wrestlers during their senior seasons at 123/126 pounds.

Melchiore was a three-time NJ state champion for Highland.

Knox was a four-time NJ state champion for St. John Vianney.

Melchiore went on to become a four-time NCAA All-American, earning two medals at Oklahoma and two at Iowa. Knox is now beginning his collegiate career at Rutgers.

St. Peter's Prep's Best Wrestlers of All-Time 🐐

A half-dozen Marauder wrestlers added medals to the list in 2026 including incoming juniors Christian Ramirez and Robert Rodriguez who placed fourth and sixth, respectively ✌️

Caedyn Ricciardi became a two-time state champion and four-time NJ medalist in 2025.

Two-time state medalist Alexander Richardson won a title for St. Peter's Prep in 2012 and went on to become an NCAA All-American at Old Dominion.

The top nine wrestlers in Marauders history produced twenty-six NJ medals and six state titles.

They include four state champions, two four-time state medalists, four three-time medalists, and six state finalists!

Mat Chat Monday: Adam Derengowski 🎙️

Jersey Wrestling is excited to continue Mat Chat Monday, highlighting some of the best interviews with wrestlers and coaches from across New Jersey 🤝

This week, New Jersey Mat Chat sits down with Paul VI state champion and Rider NCAA All-American Adam Derengowski.

Derengowski's wrestling career had an unlikely beginning. He didn't start wrestling until his freshman year at Paul VI and went 0-8 that season. Two years later, he lost in the first round of the district tournament. As a senior, Derengowski completed the turnaround by winning the 1986 NJ state championship.

His career continued at Rider, where Derengowski eventually became an NCAA All-American. In the interview, he discusses his late introduction to wrestling, the loss that changed his approach to the sport, his memorable run to a state championship, training at Foxcatcher, becoming an All-American at Rider and the lessons he has carried with him long after leaving the mat.

Damien Covington Wins 1991 NJ State Title Over Pat Lynch 🔙

Overbrook senior Damien Covington defeated Ocean City's Pat Lynch, 5-3, to win the 189-pound New Jersey state championship in 1991 at Princeton University's Jadwin Gymnasium 📺

Lynch entered the final as a two-time state champion and four-time medalist, while Covington finished the tournament as the Outstanding Wrestler. Their senior-year showdown remains one of the most talked-about NJ state finals of its era.

Lynch went on to become an NCAA All-American at Arizona State, while Covington later played in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills.
