The to benefit the Virginia Horse Center Foundation is underway! Yesterday in the Dee Dee Arena, Ann De Michele won the $1,500 Schneiders Saddlery Open Jumper Stake over a course designed by Kenny Krome. Last week the TTR Sotheby's International Realty 3'6" A/O Hunters Championship was awarded to Alisa Berry and At Last. Grace Owens and her own Superlative won the Grand Hunter Championship last week. It’s great to see a local farm continuing to push forward during these difficult times and supplying the community with fresh produce. Recently, I've been looking online for ways to get some of my favorite produce delivered from my own local farms so I can continue to support these cornerstone members of my community without risking the health of those involved. While looking around online I happened to come across an LA Times article for a recently released documentary called Kiss the Ground, found on Vimeo and Netflix, that focuses on how regenerative farming techniques can be used to help heal our planet and slowly reverse the damage done by climate change. The film focuses on the importance of soil and how it’s the key to saving ourselves and our planet before it’s too late. Soil, according to the film, plays a key role in controlling the carbon emissions found in our planet’s atmosphere. The film is built on a beautiful message of hope, exploring how individuals around the world can work together to help heal our planet and make a real difference. It's been amazing to watch people around the globe rally around the film's powerful message and start making real steps towards change in the environment. I've been inspired by the impact the film has had on people around the globe. I learned a lot from the film and I'm looking forward to applying this knowledge in my daily life, dedicating myself to a more positive future for the planet. The film is incredibly inclusive with a diverse cast full of experts and activists, including Ian Somerhalder and Ray Archuleta. It was an amazing film and I can't wait to get out and make a change!

Our Story

As a Junior rider Dorna competed in the prestigious national Medal, Maclay and USET equitation finals, as well as the low junior jumpers and junior hunters, placing consistently. As an amateur and a professional she has competed in the Amateur-owner jumpers, the open jumpers, and the Mini-Prixs up through level 8 (4’9”) where she was consistently in the ribbons. Dorna has worked for three Olympians: first Peter Leone, then Daan Nanning in Holland, and settling in Virginia working for, and then with, Joe Fargis. Dorna is currently competing a string of horses that range from those who are attending their first horse show, to horses competing at level 7 (4’6”). She has developed a strong reputation for developing young horses, giving them the skills that make them competitive, athletic, and easy to ride.
