Congrats Lizzy!
Meet Elizabeth "Lizzy" Roberts, a history-maker from the West High Class of 2026. Lizzy describes her time as a Wahawk as Guiding, a journey that helped her find her path as both a scholar and a standout student-athlete.
ㅤ
Lizzy’s favorite memories are rooted on the wrestling mat. She was a member of the very first sanctioned girls' wrestling team at West, a group that became more like a family than a roster. With their support, she pushed through the mental and physical rigors of the sport to qualify for State as a freshman. This fall, she’s taking that competitive spirit to Coe College, where she will be part of their first-ever women’s wrestling team while studying Kinesiology to become a licensed athletic trainer.
ㅤ
Reflecting on how West High shaped her discipline, Lizzy shares:
"West has prepared me for my future in many ways... helping me build a steady schedule and develop my time management. Especially being a student-athlete, you need to constantly be aware of the time you have so as to evenly divide it between practice and school work."
ㅤ
Lizzy’s advice for the girls following in her footsteps is deeply personal: "Don't let your self-worth be dictated by those around you or by comparing yourself to others. Don’t let anyone influence you to go against your morals or aspirations. Soak up every bit [of high school] you can."
I am West. 🍎🤼♀️

Congrats and well said, Day Day!
Meet Daniesha Watson, a focused and community-minded member of the East High Class of 2026. Looking back on her journey, Daniesha describes her time as a Trojan in one word: Memorable.
ㅤ
Daniesha made the most of the diverse academic opportunities at East, challenging herself with a heavy load of Pre-IB, IB, AP, and concurrent enrollment courses. This rigorous path has prepared her for her next big step: attending the University of Northern Iowa. There, she plans to major in Spanish and earn certificates in Linguistics and American Sign Language (ASL) to pursue her goal of becoming a professional Spanish interpreter.
ㅤ
Reflecting on how East High equipped her for the next level, Daniesha says:
"East High School helped prepare me for the rigorous expectations and curriculum of college classes by providing Pre-IB, IB, AP, and concurrent classes."
ㅤ
When she wasn't hitting the books, Daniesha was making lasting connections, citing her junior prom as her favorite high school memory. Her advice for future Trojans is all about exploration and community: "Take however long you need to discover what you want to do... Learn more about your community and how you can get involved; it can improve your networking skills."

I Am a Trojan. 🧡🤟

Getting some new decor for the room thanks to help from and 📷 Natecastillophoto and 📷 from West High's own Jacy Gomez! Thanks for the help making this come together!
As we complete updating stats for the season, we wanted to recognize some of the major accomplishments these Waterloo girls have made over the past 4+ years and this season. We had 5 girls this season win 20+ matches:
Libby Stocks (33), Daniesha Watson (29), Maddison Younger (24), Lizzy Roberts (20), and Aylla Karahodzic (20).
We have had 5 separate individuals qualify for state under the IGHSAU: Libby Stocks (3x qualifier), Lydia Parkhurst, Lizzy Roberts, Kammie Gleiter, and Daniesha Watson.
This year we had 2 girls surpass the 100 win mark: Libby Stocks (121) and Lizzy Roberts (102).
We had 1 girl surpass the 100 pin mark: Libby Stocks (104)
We have had 3 individuals place: Carlie Frost (IWCOA 2019 138 # - 6th), Libby Stocks (2025 115 #- 3rd), and Daniesha Watson (2026 130 # - State Champion)
Daniesha Watson is the 126th State Champ in all of Waterloo (including Columbus), the 117th in district history (including East, West, Orange, and Central High schools), and the first in the IGHSAU.
Together, the team finished with a winning dual record for the first time this season (9-6 in duals), placed 14th in the Battle of Waterloo (highest finish as a dual team), and they went 5-0 in duals in January.
To all of the girls who have helped build this program to where it is today over the past 9+ years since you started to try and make a place for yourselves in the sport: thank you. From having 1-2 girls venturing out in the few years as the IWCOA began the push to sanction girls wrestling, to the 36 girls who finished the season with us this year: none of these accomplishments would have been possible without each and every one of you. So thank you.
