Ketchup Race & Party!
Yesterday’s Ketchup Race and Party was a great success by every measure!
The race itself was a real challenge. A light northerly breeze on an east-west course kept everyone working all the way around the course. Every time the wind built and you felt like you had something going, it seemed to disappear just as quickly. Challenging, frustrating, and ultimately a great race!
A huge thank you to our Race Committee, especially John Brown, for setting and retrieving the course marks for every race this year. It’s a tremendous amount of work and is very much appreciated.
And thank you to our signal boat crew aboard Nepenthe — Bob Vosteen, Anne Martin, and Ken Martin — for running a flawless start. It takes concentration and precision, and they nailed it!
Then came the party… and what a party! 🎉
Thank you to everyone who brought food to share — you outdid yourselves! A very big thank you to Tim Quirk, Dana Leonard, and their families for hosting and making it such a memorable afternoon. And a special thank you to Tim for making The Uptown Groove part of the celebration. The band made the entire afternoon festive and fun!
Another special thank you to Tim for his generous raffle baskets, and Dana for making the event shirts possible and both donating the full proceeds from their sale to youth sailing. Together, these efforts raised over $1,000 for youth sailing!
It was definitely a highlight of the OOYC race season. Thanks to everyone who helped make the Ketchup Race and Party such a great day!
