Did you know that a staple of global golf history was invented right here at Watertown Country Club? 🏌️‍♂️🌍 If you’ve ever used a classic tee-box ball washer to clean your golf ball mid-round, you have a WCC member to thank!

Back in 1924, Lobegott Mollart retired as the master mechanic of the local G. B. Lewis Company and took up golf at Watertown Country Club. He quickly ran into a frustrating problem: his golf balls were constantly covered in Silver Creek mud and grass stains.

Driven by inventive genius, Mollart designed a practical, mechanical device to scrub them clean right on the course.
The Result: The iconic Lewis Golf Ball Washer.
The Legacy: He licensed his design to the G.B. Lewis Company, and it went on to become an industry standard found on thousands of golf courses worldwide.

Talk about local innovation! The next time you wash your ball on the course, you’re participating in a piece of history born right out of our own Silver Creek mud.
