civic and educational programs sponsored
by local YMCA’s, universities, school

The 50th Annual AKDWK Camp was extremely well attended by students and instructors from all classes in NYS, Ohio, and Kingston, Ont. The 3 days of training were highly informative, quite challenging and highly rewarding for all participants. Master Lawlor and the Black Belts were very proud of the Spirit- Loyalty - Virtue evident throughout the camp. It was an Honor that the 50th Camp was conducted a few days before America’s. Celebration. Flags were displayed in all regions of Camp.

The 50th Year Celebration of America Kang Duk Won Karate Camps has begun!
Thirty Junior Belts attended the AKDWK Camp on Saturday, June 6th, in the rural countryside location of
Lorraine, NY. A full day of challenging and educational experiences were offered. Black Belt Instructors taught classes
in safety, teamwork methods, running a forest awareness course, climbing exercises, formal karate techniques,
and walking throughout a back meadow labyrinth.
Adult Camp, June 26-28, will establish training sessions held "1976~2026,"
and Celebrate America's 250th during the three days of presentations.

Gouverneur and Canton student tested for their next colored belt ranks at the Gouverneur Community Center on May 11th. Master Lawlor, Master Palumbo, Mrs. Palumbo, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Huber evaluated students during an hour of formal exercises and self-defense requirements.
Members of the Gouverneur Dojang remain very supportive of all youth and programs offered at GCC!

The 49th AKDWK International Championships filled the Watertown Family YMCA Fairgrounds facility on Sunday, March 22.
Mr. Richard Adams was recognized as “Karateka of the Year” for his outstanding dedication and efforts!

Gouverneur class of youth and adults got in a well-focused workout just before belt tests were conducted on February 24th for North Country Dojangs.
After the original YMCA Headquarter’s Dojang, the Gouverneur classes represent the longest running AKDWK programs, started in 1976. “The Tradition Continues!”

U.S. Military Veterans of the North Country received special gift fruit baskets created by members of AKDWK. The Tradition Continues in Thanking men and women Veterans for their sacrifices and dedication to all of us. VFW Post 1231, AKDWK Dojangs, Gouverneur Community Center, St. Mary and St. James Parishes, and Creation in Wood (artistic baskets) joined in the Christmas gift surprises to 40 Veterans and their families.

AKDWK members and their families recently shared much Christmas Spirit at the Watertown YMCA Main Dojang with student belt tests and a full day of Clinic classes.
Instructors taught seminars in self-defense, sign-language, archery,
teamwork, and formal exercises.?A surprise visit by Santa made for a very exciting day of training!!

On Sunday, Dec. 7, American Kang Duk Won Karate instructors, students, and family members joined their efforts with Watertown YMCA CEO Shawna Cutuli and regional staff to wrap up the “Winter Wonderland” 2025 Festival of Trees.

*(This year’s North Country Festival of Trees supports the construction of a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Samaritan Medical Center and children’s scholarships at the Watertown Family YMCA.)

The 2025 Festival of Trees “Winter Wonderland” (11/28-12/7) in Watertown, NY, will greatly assists Samaritan Medical Center and Family YMCA Youth Programs. AKDWK took part in preparations for this important North Country fundraising event.

Tests were conducted for candidates at the Gouverneur and Copenhagen Dojangs on November 10th and 11th.
Since area school districts were not in session in recognition of U.S. Veterans Day, both of the testing events offered opening remarks in recognition and appreciation of Our Military Men and Women for their dedication, loyalty, and sacrifices on our Country's behalf. Thank You To Our U.S. Veterans!
