We don't understand why people destroy the nice things they're given, but we're not letting that deter us. Jackie and Rien will be here all morning and into the afternoon fixing the children's stage back up, so children can feel safe and comfortable playing and imagining on it!

Hi, it's Rien, co-chair of Friends of Green Street Park taking over this page for a quick moment. I just want to take a moment to thank everyone who made the backpack giveaway last night at the South End National Night Out Festival - hosted right here in Green Street Park - a huge success! We were under a serious time crunch and sometimes it takes a village and we couldn't have done it without you. 200 backpacks for Waterville students were handed out so children can start the school year with the tools they need to succeed!
Thank you to the volunteers whether it was packing backpacks, driving to acquire supplies/backpacks, or a last minute help getting everything to the part, you are appreciated! Some of you have tried to say you "didn't do much" but every little thing you did combined to make this event happen. Volunteers large and small, we appreciate you!
This event would not have happened with the generous financial support of the local community people, organizations, and businesses. In no particular order, they are: Beth Israel Congregation - Waterville, Kennebec Valley Community Action Program, Colby College Museum of Art, Colby College Arts and Humanities, The Robin's Nest, Front & Main, L.L.Bean Flagship Store (special thanks to Nathan and Lee), L.L.Bean, Maine State Credit Union, Waterville Sunrise Rotary Club, Sunrise Bagel, FAME Maine, Waterville Creates, Incense & Peppermints - Candy & Gifts, and we can't forget Tommy the Terrier from Thomas College!
Thank you everyone and cheers to saving the backpack program!

Look what's finished and ready for use!
Hard to believe this has happened, but the Skatepark is nearly complete. It will be painted after the concrete has cured, but feel free to skate to your hearts' content and if you're willing to share pictures, we'd love to see you using the space!

"A city resident, Dave Dutil Jr., was involved in the group and had long lobbied for a skatepark there before his death in 2016. The skatepark will be named for him."

After nearly 10 years of effort, the Dave Dutil Jr Memorial Skatepark is coming to Green Street Park!! We are beyond thrilled that this is finally happening and we would like to thank everyone who helped us along our journey!
Construction is expected to begin in Mid-August and will replace the concrete slab that the old skatepark was on. Special thanks to Pivot Custom Parks / American Ramp Company for the design and construction of the park!
