CrossFit is a community where we work together to reach our goals while bringing the fun back to you We are a community first and foremost.

We know there are many choices out there when it comes to fitness - we are in fact, bombarded by these choices on a daily basis. At CrossFit Watsonville, we try to offer something different. CrossFit Watsonville was started by a group of trainers with years of strength and conditioning experience that were sick of the same old gym experience: "check-in at the front desk, put on your ipod, zone out

The farmers carry 💪

Simple? Yes.

Easy? Not quite.

At Station 6 in HYROX, athletes pick up a pair of heavy kettlebells and carry them for 200 meters. Sounds straightforward until you remember you’ve already run 5 kilometers and completed five workout stations.

The challenge isn’t just strength—it’s maintaining good posture and staying composed under fatigue.

A few coaching cues we use in class 👇

▪️ Stand tall and keep your chest up
▪️ Take short, controlled steps
▪️ Relax your shoulders and focus on your breathing

The farmers carry teaches you how to stay strong while moving efficiently.

And trust us, your grip will definitely know it got some work in.

The row 🚣

At first glance, rowing looks simple.

Sit down, pull the handle, and go.

But in HYROX, the 1,000-meter row comes after burpee broad jumps and another kilometer of running, making it one of the biggest tests of pacing in the race.

The athletes who do best aren’t always the ones pulling the hardest—they’re the ones who stay consistent.

A few coaching cues we use in class 👇

▪️ Drive with your legs first
▪️ Stay tall through your torso
▪️ Find a sustainable pace and stick with it
The row is your chance to settle in, control your breathing, and keep moving forward without burning yourself out.

That’s a skill we practice every week.

The burpee broad jump 🔥

Love them or hate them, burpee broad jumps are one of the most memorable stations in HYROX.

After your fourth kilometer of running, you'll cover 80 meters by combining a burpee with a forward jump, over and over again. It's a movement that challenges your engine, coordination, and mental toughness all at once.

The key isn't going fast from the start—it's finding a pace you can hold.

A few coaching cues we use in class 👇
▪️ Stay low when you land to keep moving smoothly
▪️ Use your arms to help drive the jump forward
▪️ Find a steady rhythm and avoid sprinting the first few reps

Burpee broad jumps aren't about being the strongest athlete in the room. They're about staying efficient when you're tired.

And that's exactly what we practice.

The biggest mistake we see people make when they first try HYROX?

Treating it like a sprint. ❌

Whether it’s the opening 1km run, the very first meter of the sled push, or those initial burpee broad jumps, the temptation is always to attack them with everything you’ve got.

But HYROX is a game of management. If you redline in the first 15 minutes, the remaining 45+ are going to feel twice as long.

Here are the three biggest pacing mistakes to avoid:

1️⃣ Sprinting the first run. Your adrenaline will be pumping, but your first kilometer should actually feel a bit conservative. Save that energy for the stations ahead.

2️⃣ Rushing the transitions. Flying into a station when your heart rate is at 180 bpm makes the movement harder than it needs to be. Take 5–10 seconds to catch your breath, reset, and then execute.

3️⃣ Not having a plan for the reps. Going unbroken on wall balls or lunges until failure sounds tough, but strategic, planned breaks will actually get you to the finish line faster and with less burnout.

In our classes, we don't just teach you how to do the movements. We teach you how to pace them, how to breathe through them, and how to finish just as strong as you started.

On Memorial Day, we pause to honor the heroes who never made it home. It’s a reminder that our freedom to gather, to struggle together through MURPH, and then go home to our loved ones, came at a cost most of us will never fully understand.

This hero WOD “MURPH” honors U.S Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy, who gave his life in Afghanistan on June 28th, 2005.

Every year we come together, we suffer together, and we finish together. This is not just an important tradition.
This is community ❤️

Thinking about trying HYROX but something's holding you back? 🤔

We hear the same hesitations all the time and almost none of them are real. Let's clear up the three big ones 👇

▪️ "I'm not a runner."
You don't have to be. HYROX runs are 1km repeats, broken up by stations. They're short, manageable, and they get easier the more you train them. Most of our members weren't runners when they started.

▪️ "I'm not in shape yet."
That's exactly why class exists. Every movement scales, lighter sleds, smaller wall balls, shorter lunges. You meet HYROX where you're at, and we'll coach you the rest of the way.

▪️ "I don't want to compete against everyone."
HYROX is a race, but our classes aren't. You work at your own pace, set your own weights, and finish when you finish. The only person you're up against is yourself.

If you've been on the fence, come check it out. We'd love to have you.

The sled push 🛷

If you've watched a HYROX race, you've seen it, athletes pushing weighted sleds across the floor at Station 2.

It shows up after your second kilometer of running, and yes, your legs will know they did some work. But here's the good news: anyone can learn it, and it's one of the most rewarding movements in the sport once you've got the technique down.

A few coaching cues we use in class 👇

▪️ Hips low, body angled forward
▪️ Drive through your legs (not your arms!)
▪️ Short, quick steps to keep the sled moving

Whether it's your first time on a sled or your hundredth, we'll meet you where you're at.
