Picked up this sweet little number a few days ago from an unassuming suburbanite driveway where it had spent considerable time collecting dust + dirty looks from the neighbors. Minty and fresh save for an overtired, overheated engine and funky backseat stench 😲😷😂😂

That engine is ripe for the picking - straight up out of there, direct to the curb!!! ✊✊✊

What will take its place??? Build sheet is taking shape and I can tell you it's going to be a ripper!!! Watch for updates as this one starts taking shape!

***Project Hooligan***

Just pulled it off the lift tonight! A few minor tweaks to the custom billet front axle nut and it's a roller!

Sitting a little lower in the rear due to the temporary shocks fit up; rest assured she will be standing tall and proud in the rear with a set of trick 13" shocks!

Moving states, then it will get the tailsection, shocks, and wiring finished up. Can't wait to shake it down!!! 😃✊

***Project Hooligan***

This guy started out life a long time ago - 23 years to be exact! Only a few thousand miles put on it under 3 owners before staring at the inside of several bins, moving no less than 10 times, and receiving zero love for the past 9 years...

Well that's over now, time to roast tires, snap wheelies, and most importantly get sideways on dirt!!! The guys over at Roland Sands Design have been busy as hell over the past two years, boosting the resurgence of hooligan flat track racing by not only building and racing their creations, but single handedly shifting the paradigm to take it from exhibition to a legitimate racing class.

But why should they have all the fun?

This 94 Sportster 1200 XLH is the perfect starting point -
hooligan bike + street tracker builds are nothing new for this platform! Certain common aspects bear repeating - rear shocks, seat, 19" wheels for flat track tires, chain drive...where's the twist? Got to make it unique...how about a Panigale front end to keep that front end under control? Keeping chatter to a minimum is much easier with the proper starting point + tunability.

After a long haitus, Speedball Competitive Research is back! Or finally getting off the ground, depending on your perspective 😂

Spent a lot of time thinking about what this should be - there's more than a handful of race teams, privateers, custom shops looking to attract sponsors, sell parts, generate exposure, whatever their motivation is...it's usually driven by money.

I like to have fun doing cool stuff, and I like to encourage + enable others to have fun doing cool stuff. That's it.

This was surprisingly difficult to realize, and took almost burning out on the things I was so passionate about, then somehow relighting the flame.

So, Speedball Competitive Research is going to be my outlet to inspire others, grow the powersports I love, learn more, and share what I've learned. Hopefully this will help others understand why things work the way they do so that they can make educated decisions about their safety gear, bike setup, car tuning, everything. Replace misinformation with physics-based truth. + keep learning along the way, of course!

For now, I'll just post on cool projects I am fortunate enough to work on, maybe a tech topic or tip here and there. No intentions of making this thing a day-to-day, but the team might grow, do some tuning, make some parts...who knows?
